When copying files from my home PC to the daphile pc internal drive using copy and paste over a gb network I keep getting an error after a few minutes - "invalid backend response - data is not json". Is this a 'bug' with daphile or more likely is it something I am doing or rather am not doing?
I've never had that problem. What type of files are they?
I rip to FLAC 8 using Daphile and it stores all of my music on a NAS (64 bit FreeNAS 9.10 with ZFS).
I've found a pattern - the copy process stops after 22 directories. For example, under "A" I have 47 sub directories (artists). The Daphile copy always stops with the JSON error after it has finished 22 directories. Likwise if I copy 'B' - stops after 22 directories.
I'm now playing music. The dedicated purpose built PC is a big improvement on my second hand HP 8440p notebook. Also a lot more flexible in that I can fine tune components. I am running a skylake g4400 dual core cpu and looking at the information on the Daphile info page. In particular, system load is currently 0.29, 0.60 and 0.39 averaged over 1 min, 5 min and 15 min respectively. Is this the CPU load % averaged over the CPU cores? Also, I saw a figure of 1.88 - is that meaningful? What is the recommended system load average and max?
Should I overclock the CPU to reduce the 'system load'? This will generate more heat and trigger the fans. My temps are currently all below 30c; T1 is only 24c. The Silverstone Sfx 300 fan is stationary - only activates when under load.
Despite all the above the music is really excellent.

I can answer my own question and apologies for not being more resourceful. I'm relatively new to Linux and hence my ignorance. The answer to the above can be found here ..
Understanding Linux CPU Load - when should you be worried?
According to this a number > #cores for the 15 minute average needs 'attention'.
How can I access the Daphile internal drive from Windows 10? Apparently only Windows 10 Enterprise supports NFS. I have tried installing NFS4.1 on Windows 10 but so far have had no success. Please can someone help. I have a fixed 4TB drive on my Daphile machine and want to load it with a local copy of my music. Trying to pull the data in Daphile gives me a JSON error (see above).
Daphile speaks cifs. On your daphile server, share your drives inside storage settings.
If you are trying to access the daphile file system, I'm not sure you can do that. I never tried.

In windows explorer, enter \\daphile_ip_address.
That's enough to show which folders are available on daphile.

Thanks for the update. I've been doing that. What is the user id and password?
No password needed. See last paragraph in the wiki.
Try \\daphile_ip_address\folder_name.
Folder name will be under Identification column.

Yes, I have been trying that. Get an error claiming I have a missing 'network protocol'. Presumably this is NFS which is only available on Windows 7 and Windows 10 Enterprise?
I see in Call for testers! Daphile - Page 26 there is an option to install a CD Player. I loaded the CD player from Audio plugins - SqueezeboxWiki but can't see where, if at all, it has made any changes.
You don't need nfs for it to connect.
Bottom left hand corner of your desktop, where the clock is located, there should be an icon for Network. May say "internet access" when you place the pointer on it.
Right click on the icon and Open Network & Sharing.
On left is change adapter settings. Select it.
Idetify your network card. Right click for its properties.
Is File and Print Sharing for MS Networks checked off?
Is it even available?
Is Client for MS Networks checked?
If you close Network properties and use the back arrow, you'll go back one screen to network and sharing.
Select Change Advanced sharing on left.
Under Network discovery, turn on network discovery.
Save changes at bottom.

Thanks for the insight. Obviously there is an issue with my Win 10 networking. I tried another PC and gained instant access to Daphile.

I have fixed my Win 10 PC to recognize other computers on the WORKGROUP network. See Can't see other computers in Workgroup on Windows 10 computer - Page 27 - Windows 10 Forums for an overview of the issues which seem to have hit a large number of Win10 users. What fixed it for me seemed to be a combination of ensuring the Daphile server name was all upper case and re applying KB3140741 . Note my WIn 10 updates are applied automatically. It's having to do housekeeping issues like this that makes the use of Daphile so much more practical.
Lookup User Access Control in security.
If it's set too high it can prevent things from executing.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but I can't get Spotify or Tidal to show up under "My Apps". You Tube is there, but isn't working...
Tidal could be that I haven't got a paid account, I guess, but Spotify is a paid premium account, so that should work.
Any suggestions what I'm missing?

Just curious. Do the standard, free online Hi -Res radio stations play?
