Daphile - Audiophile Music Server & Player OS

Just tried, and still not working for me. More troubling, perhaps, is that the discs that I tried to rip the other day are now quickly recognized as "Unknown album, unknown artist" in such a rapid fashion (compared to different discs that I didn't try to rip before) that I fear that Daphile (or Gracenote) has them more or less permanently cataloged on my system, and they'll forever be recognized as unknowns.

I'd go back to Moode, but that system doesn't have a ripper. I'd do a stand-alone rip on a Windows machine, but I've vowed never to connect one of those to the internet again.

Sorry, I should have said you will need the latest Beta release to get the updated Gracenote licence.

Files not showing up in search

I'm really excited about getting Daphile setup, but have been having issues with my files not showing up in the search function. The laptop I'm using is Ubuntu Mate and I'm using the USB distro method. I spent a couple of hours last night trying different things to see if I could get my music files to show up, but nothing has worked. (probably something really simple) I changed the permissions within laptop folders, tried searching from daphile in specific folders, etc. What is showing up is the files from my hard drive where my music is stored, but when I drill down and get to my user name files there is a padlock on the files and when opened nothing is in there.

Anyone expereince this or have any ideas on what I should do? I looked through this forum and others, but wasn't able to find a similar issue being explained.

Thanks in advance
bw

XLD is great.
You can always post a question on the Daphile Facebook page. Kimmo usually replies promptly. https://www.facebook.com/Daphile/

Daphile and piCorePlayer lossless audio playback

This weekend I wanted to use my Raspberry-Pi (with a I2S HifiBerry DAC) again with piCorePlayer, so downloaded and installed the latest version of piCorePlayer. For some reason I was not able to play FLAC or WAV files (MP3 worked well, so I knew the DAC was working). I am using the latest Daphile version which I installed this weekend through the update button.

After a lot investigation I discovered that the problem resides in the fact that Daphile transcodes the data from FLAC (or WAV) to DSF. I'm not sure why this happens (I assume that this is caused by the combination of squeezelite and Daphile (I also tried LMS v7.9 from another PC and that worked without any problem)). I also use a SB-Touch and never had a problem in playing lossless audio via Daphile.

In order to "solve" the playback problem I changed the config of the -c flag:
-c flac,pcm,mp3,ogg,aac,wma,alac,mad
(Not sure you need to add all of these, but it seems to work for at least FLAC and WAV). After this the FLAC and WAV files played again.

I don't know if you need to do this for all I2S-DACs, perhaps if you use one which also plays DSD it works without modifying the config. I also have a USB-DAC which supports DSD-playback, but I was not able to play audio via USB as well when I connected this DAC to my piCorePlayer.

Anyway, I hope this info is useful for my fellow Daphile-users 😀

Hi All

I just now downloaded Daphile (I am new to it, though have used SBS quite a lot before). Anyway I installed Daphile on a VMware Player 12 just to see how it works. Well initiall impressions were good and i was able to play flacs, BUT I am not able to save setting coz Daphile is throwing this error .."Running Daphile from the read-only filesystem. Settings cannot be saved!" .........

Well running on a VMware means the disk is a VMDK file which was formatted completely by Daphile itself before installing it on the VM HDD. I am not sure where the problem lies or how to resolve this.

Anyone who can assist .. ?

I think you may have installed Daphile as a readonly USB-image and booted from there and not installed on a harddrive, so to say. I run Daphile in a VirtualBox VM and that works well for me. For installation I created an empty (linux-)VM and mounted the Daphile image file as a CD/floppydrive and booted from that image. Then you can select the installation during bootup and after installation boot from your Daphile-VM. One other suggestion: did you eject the image after installation? Perhaps you still boot from the image .. ??

Ok thanks your post did help me to rethink. I removed the image just to check and yes indeed I was booting from ISO. No wonder I was getting the error. The initial CUI configuration that Daphile does is just cleaning the VM HDD and not installing anything on it. That was the confusion. To actually install you have to navigate via web interface under settings->New firmware, choose the HDD from there and click install. That actually did the HDD installation ...lol ... 😛

After that I was able to boot with the ISO removed and also was able to save the settings.

Thanks bro for the Help.🙂

Someone using Brutefir?
Could you kindly tell me the procedure to create the files convolvers or room correction, to be loaded into Brutefir?
On the web I found only guides based on Windows-REW-DRC-JRiver.

Thanks

Sorry for my bad English

Yes only REW, once the equalization filters done save the filters and export as Filters Impulse Response as Waw see attached pictures, see where do you save the Waw files with the Impulse Response because you have to load this file to Daphile BruteFir option.

Attached pic of EQ, here you have to select your Equalizer type: for Daphile use "Generic", targets: speaker type etc & tasks: match range etc.

It's important that you do all this things before you assign the EQ filters.

Many Thanks Merlin,
but the main problem is just the use of REW:
I have an Audio-Pc\Player with installed only Daphile,
how use REW on this Audio-Pc?
I so far, I have been using REW only on the other Pc with Windows.
You use the same Pc with Daphile to take measurements?

Thanks

As i understand it that is not necessary.
You can follow the 5 steps as Merlin El Mago describes on a pc with REW.
The export files you can import to Daphile (wich can be on another pc).
But i haven't tested the procedure yet.

Daphile BruteFir looks for the waw files, doesn't matter the computer if are network connected. When using BruteFir an important thing is to reduce the ouput rate to 192kHz.
