Daphile - Audiophile Music Server & Player OS

Thought I'd try a fast 802.11ac wifi adaptor. Currently taking ages to transfer dsf files from PC to Daphile. I bought a Realtek RTL8811AU USB Wifi adaptor. Not surprisingly it doesn't work. I assume that Daphile doesn't have the driver for it? Anyway, just wanted to ask if there is a way to manually install the linux driver. Thanks!!

I've been wondering a lot recently about a Linear Powersupply for computer, but it seems illogical to me because I believe the Mother Board of every PC is just full of SMPS types of switches,... maybe I'm all wet there,... not sure.

Not only that, but the high-speed digital circuitry in a PC produces a lot of high frequency switching noise that SMPSs deal with much better than high-current linear supplies do.

Hi,

I have a pc case with lcd and I want to test Daphile.
Is any possibility to use lcd by lcdproc?
Is lcdproc package installed by default?

Did you try it?

Not sure I understand your question. LCDproc is an Operating System, correct? (LCDproc - Home)

Well, Daphile is an Operating System also.

What hardware are you using? You need 2GB HDD Storage Space, and I think I read 512k RAM, but that may have been with a previous version. I have 2GB RAM, and I think 4 would be better. Sometimes my GUI is a little slow, but it's faster if I run Daphile on my laptop which has 16GB RAM.

So it's possible to boot Daphile and install and run it all from a USB, without disturbing your HDD at all. Just set your BIOS boot order to USB #1. Goto Daphile.com download the program and the instructions free. Follow instructions to prepare your USB Installation image.
During the first time you boot, follow on screen instructions to set up, choose language, etc. Then it will say "You may remove USB now". Instead leave it in, then you can choose it as the Target Drive to complete the install. Choose your player, and set up options etc, then Save and Restart.

Now when you boot your PC with the USB Stick in, Daphile will automatically load and run with your saved preferences.

Remove USB, reboot again, and your PC will use its regular OS from the HDD.

I'd be curious to know if when you run LCDproc, can you access a webpage with it? If you can, then while running Daphile on a seperate PC on your network, then turn on your other computer with LCDproc on the same network and navigate to http: // daphile.local and see if you can control (choose song to play, etc) Daphile with LCDproc

If you want a local UI on your LCD screen you don't need LCDProc.
Daphile has a local UI option.

Look in the General tab and select "Local UI. Enable player control application"

Then reboot to see a minimal player control screen. It is very basic and requires some tedious navigation drill-downs but is quite sufficient for local playback once you've got it mastered.

You can still access Daphile from another device when you need to do things requiring the full web interface.

Or are you simply wanting to have track info sent to a 16x2 character lcd or similar ??

@livs.. I've not used LCDProc and nobody else has posted so I guess you may have to do some experimenting yourself.

Yes, Daphile is closed in it's standard releases but the beta releases are configurable and able to be ssh'd into.
(I generally run the betas and find them just as stable as the standard)

If you have experience with LCDProc then try installing and configuring it using the beta and let us know how it goes. 🙂

From what I read daphile is built from layered filesystems and changes will be gone upon rebooting, unless the changes are made in the the first permanent read-only layer

I do recall seeing at one point a message saying "This is a read only version, your changes will not be saved"

After choosing target drive for instal and clicking save& reboot that message went away.

It may have been the 2nd or 3rd save and reboot that I configured some of the advanced audio settings, plug ins, squeezebox user name for access to Tidal app, etc. These subsequent changes have saved just fine, even after the initial install.

Hi All,

New to this forum and would be greatful for some help.

I am using version 16.07-x86_64 on a Mac mini which is connected to SOtM SMS-200 with Squeezlite then onto a Chord DAVE DAC via USB.
I can play DSD with HDA Intel PCH CS4206 Digital [hw:1,1] enabled but this limits my PCM playback to 176.4kHz.
When I disable HDA Intel PCH CS4206 Digital [hw:1,1], I can play PCM 352.8kHz but DSD playback is lost.
The player plays but there is no sound output. The system seems to hang after trying DSD playback it will not play even 44.1kHz. I need to reboot sMS-200..

In Advanced Media Server Settings I have Enable DSD-over-PCM.
For File Types I have both DSF and DFF set to Native.

Both Chord DAVE and sMS-200 are supposed to be able to play DSD natively.

Please advise.

Thanks.

Geoff

Try the latest beta. They are stable and use the latest Linux and lms updates. See Index of /firmware/beta. See FAQ 3 on how to access the beta ...

A3. The old versions are available at
Index of /firmware/stable/old. The full installation of
Daphile may be "upgraded" to any specific version at
http://daphile/cgi-bin/Devel. Users have to copy the download link of
the version as text to input field besides the Install button and
press Install to process.

Hi there,
I try to use PCM->DSD to play my WAV file and it can play DSD64 and DSD128 perfectly. However, when I try to use DSD256 or 512 option, it cannot play very smooth...
I try to use "Play from RAM option" for DSD256 or 512, it play very smooth.

Are there any tuning for the Daphile setting?
I am using 17.05-rt kernel running on a i5 notebook@1.3GHz (2C2T). Is the CPU that is not enough power to perform the upsampling to DSD256/512?

Could anyone give me some advice on it?
Thanks,

If it plays dsd128 and not dsd256 then it could be your DAC or the lack of processing capacity. Goto the "settings - audio devices - <your DAC> - advanced settings" and increase the attenuation level to see if it makes a difference. What DAC are you using? Also try the daphile non rt version. Has it worked on older versions of daphile?

I just a newbie to use Daphile, and it is the same issue for non-rt kernel.
I am using Holo Spring DAC thru USB connection.
Seem increasing attenuation without any improvement.

Btw, if I use RAM to play, it is working on DSD256 and 512.
