DAC AD1862: Almost THT, I2S input, NOS, R-2R

Hello there, did you have the chance of trying this one
https://a.aliexpress.com/_ExAy2q9
And comparing to JLsounds or this interesting Ü30?

Hi,
interresting discussions about Q/P of the hard to diy USB to pcm stream.

I am fond myself of JLSOUNDS cause quality and great support. I do think too much economical can cost more, said differently I am too poor to make economy here just for multiplicating the projects.

I'd like to see at least an uf-l pad to slave the JLSOUNDS board to go further, I don't like the idea of the pin header for that (impedance matching and shielding matter at those speeds imo, but I am not sure).

There is little to winn with better clocks if the whole layout is poor. You migth more listen to the difference of the power supplies decoupling on this new clock chain than the said better crystal. so connection and pcb layout matter a lot there : there is a chance than the chineese made in the kitchen w/o experience but the glue logic are not worthing it. But as said it must be evalued case by case. I do not see reason why there should not be some good ic that pop ups at fair price times to times !

So reviews matter as well 🙂

My 2 cents

I will wait for the release of this version:
This also seems legendary, but it sounds like it won't be "plug and play", considering I use with USB output my DAP and raspberry... Let's wait

Friends, doing some experiments with @Vunce/@grunf's AD811 board... Instead of the shunt PSU, how is it using Miro's reg LT1963A/LT3015 or a reg with TPS7A4701/3301 ?
I'm outside the PSU world, I don't know what happens in that regulators, so asking whether it's feasible and if it makes sense (sound wise).
Thank you!

Selling my PCM63 DAC to raise some funds, I have two more chips here to make another. Too much stuff.

Top notch components, two matched J grade Japan made DAC chips. set up with no op-amps to use external IV stage. I can also provide PCBs for tube I/V if needed

Will list in Swap meet.

Planning the endgame now. My build will be two boxes, for me footprint size is important, I can go up but not across .

This will be a pre-DAC with Muses volume by Meldano, need to figure best way to supply it +/-15V, depending on the DAC I choose it might be easy. Bought two enclosures here, they are very nice. Helpful vendor.

The PCM1704 is a very nice DAC (thanks Tan) Just used OPA604 so far, need to dig out my other op-amps from my stash somewhere.

If anyone is interested, Miro spun some gerbers for AD1862 and PCM63 with no OP stage and JLSounds on board, Got a couple spare but here are the gerbers below. Also my J grade DAC chip collection. Like bloody Pokemon, gotta get them all.... 🙂

Passive420,

I second these enclosures are great!

I have 4 of them... very nice finish, easy to work, greatly assembled enabling several access options, robust and heavy (cables aren't lifting it etc.), very competitive price... a steal in fact. Oh, and they are consistant (appart from the feet provided, but that's an easy fix), so eventhough I bought them within 2 years apart I can stack them etc without noticing a difference.

Have a fun build!

Claude

Since I now will be joining the "Miro DAC club" thanks to @passive420 😉
The PCM63 version to be specific. As I have no desire to sell my first born, I was wondering if you can use PCM1702 on pcm63 adapter in this DAC? They are not quite as expensive as pcm63 (should you find a source of genuine IC's). I'll be building the tube I/V as well, using a 6n1p tube, NOS, that I have in my stash. Looking forward to this build 🙂

@Mayday I would welcome you to the dark side here, except it seems you have already had the darkness for years 😉 Mayday has some skills people. Bloody Vikings....

No my friend, you cannot use PCM1702 for the pcb, not even on the PCM1704 board. Different pins. You can spin board layouts so you could possibly make adapter to fit the PCM1704 PCB by Miro, I have some, -

I've indeed been on the dark side for years... stumbleing around in the dark tripping over all projects laying around 😉😅
