In your eyes through scope eyeglasses yes, in your ears and brain, through amp and more importantly speakers membranes, NO
Bonjour.
I will approach this dac build in stages- no thrills working opamp-based model with i2s over USB from JLS (initially bus powered, then individual regulators), then add I/V stage and finally an external clock from JLS and maybe frequently displaying oled.
I will have several power supply options to choose from 2x ubib and one PSU 2.
Regarding the best approach, ie what to prioritize - hook up shunt to digital or analogue? For the argument's sake, I can connect ubibs to 5v and 12v of the DAC board. And keep psu 2 for the 15v of the i/v stage.
I still have to buy Psu for the JLS, suggestions here are welcome.

Which version of the board are you using?Bonjour.

Ok. The stacked board, if you jumper J14 and close SJ3, the digital +5V will be connected to the JLS clock supply.
So you need a separate +5V for the USB section for the JLS card.
I use a simple LT1962 regulator board for this and it works well enough for me.
Honestly, the PSU2 is not bad. You can play with it for a while, till the urge to try the ubib kicks in.
Shunt regulation works better for me on the analog rails. When on the digital side, it didnt sound much of an improvement to me.

You DO need not to supply the I/V and the clean side of the JLS with the same PSUII imho. Just feed the clean jls side with a good low noise reg and an isolated secondary of a Rcore traffo.
My 2 cents.
My 2 cents.
Sure, it IV will have its own supply. You DO need not to supply the I/V and the clean side of the JLS
I want to achieve more features with the lowest cost, but it is not possible to made a dac. 😁
Currently, music is played through imac-audirvana, using SBC gives me more features with Android, but costs increase, so cancel for now.
What do you think about CM6631A USB to I2S? Alilink audiophonics
Is it a good option for TDA1541?
Or this module XMOS

To go from USB to any of the legacy R2R DACs, JLSound direct connection to DAC is IMHO the best solution.
I use one to measure and match PCM1704, PCM56, PCM63, AD1862, and AD1865.

I used a couple of the lt3042 psus from eBay to power my JLS. Small footprint, and the JLS has it's own on board requlators, so I don't think heroic psus are needed there.Bonjour.

Don't forget the @rhthatcher Flexreg from earlier in the thread. Clean/compact with the transformer integrated.
Thats neat! And it looks like gerbers are available. Thanks 🙂Don't forget the @rhthatcher Flexreg from earlier in the thread. Clean/compact with the transformer integrated.
