Excellent feedback Fran, thanks.
If I remember correctly, when I powered the dirty side of the I2SoverUSB the current draw was about 350mA.

Thanks Fran. At least to start with I'll power the dirty side via USB - that's worked fine with previous implementations of JLSounds boards. Again, to start I'll use the same power supply for the DAC +5V and the JLSounds clean side and just be watchful of the order I power things up/down. I've got various power supply options available to try down the line.
So, now that Fran has proved out Miro's PS2 board, has anyone else received their orders and have any spares they are willing to part with? Otherwise I might set up a mini group buy like I did for his DAC boards.
The PS2 boards went together very well, beware the regs are pricey compared to simpler 7805s. Those main filter caps too, I think I bought some 5600uF in another brand that were still lowish ESR but might have been half the cost.
TBH its so cheap to get boards made by jlcpcb, the bigger cost is shipping, it might not be worth doing a group buy.
I will have a couple of the soic DAC pcbs to spare, but I haven't finished building one yet to prove them. So if someone wants one, let me know. I have use lined up for the PSU boards I bought though, so nothing spare I'm afraid.

Tricking about with opamps here. I think there is a slight improvement with OP27 and OP37 over the others I've tried (LM6171, OP551, AD820). Seems to be just a tad sweeter. I wouldn't order specially, but I think there's something in it.
There aren't many DAC parts to remove so yes, if you wouldn't mind Fran. I'll tidy it up as a PSU BOM and post a link so others can use it too.
I haven't made up my mind about power supplies yet and might try a couple of options. Apart from Miro's PSU-2, I'm thinking about using a PSU-1 PCB and equipping it with LDO regulators;
Voltage Regulator
and also wondering about trying some of Jan Didden's 'Silent Switcher' modules if 150mA is sufficient current for the DAC?

Anyway, this project is a bit of a slow-burner for me as I have some other builds to progress before I get fully stuck into it, however, yesterday I did finish assembling the DAC boards and stacking them onto the JLSounds board.

I have used these Aliexpress tps7a4701 and the negative version 3 pin regs in a Cambridge Audio DACMAGIC. They transformed it. I used a dual pair on the op amp supplies and I think I used one more for the digital side. Really a huge improvement over the 78xx,78xx that werenin there.
Would work well I guess as a way of improving on PSU1.

1862 DAC board mouser BOM
DAC board BOM - ref diyAudio_AD1862_DAC_v1.3_pad_PPY3_2021-01-14 - the DIP8 version. As far as I can tell, the SOIC version is the same except for the opamps.
This will need to be checked by someone, but attached is an excel BOM for the mouser parts I used in my build.
If someone wants to cross check it, I'm happy to correct it.

PSU2 BOM
Attached is a mouser BOM for PSU2. I think all is correct, but as usual, its no harm for someone to cross check it.
Note - R15 is specc'd as 2k5 but on looking in mouser, it seems that is relatively unavailable. In my build I used 2k7 (same resistor as the IV resistor in the DAC) and it worked fine, so I've included that here.

EUVL kindly sent me one of his current mirrors to try out with Miro's 1862 DAC. After proving that the DAC was working fine during the week, and having done some tidying up on the breadboard build, I thought I would give it a try this weekend. I had previously been experimenting with the different opamps I had here, and had been pretty pleased with the op27 and op37 I had tried. They seemed to have a sweeter sound than others. Subjectively slightly tighter bass too, although this was slight I think.
Anyway, EUVL's current mirror uses a 15v bipolar supply, and I had a bipolar low noise supply from diyinhk here that I pressed into action. The unit that EUVL sent has its own regs on board but this was what I had handy. Connection was straight forward, the assembly is certainly bijou in every sense of the word, beautifully made.
I gotta tell you all, the sound from it is just wonderful. It's really impressive, I think just about every area of the sonics have improved - and bear in mind I thought it already sounded good with op27. In short, this output stage brings this DAC from an already high level even higher. Having heard it, it's difficult to go back to the opamps. This unit will go back to EUVL this week, and I'm off now to study the current mirror thread

Soo is very nice to hear that you liked. I hope EUVL share is work since this thread is free and all people is sharing.... otherwise is more of the same... as always.EUVL kindly sent me one of his current mirrors to try out with Miro's 1862 DAC. He shared it, and my understanding is he talked about his new design about discrete I/V thanks to this thread with its cool an positive feeling 🙂
Just don't know if Patrick had printed nd populated the board, but he has helped in this thread. So he shared.
We know more or less the path for an enhancement. But I believe Miro1360 want to do it the iterative way, little by little, which is sure the best way to have pleasure and learn for all here.
On the I/V side, as you know, there are a lot of ways to do it : aops, discrete, tubes, fully passive...
there are three or four oaps that rules it imho, but all needs a diferent layout cause some are soic or dip, single or dual, or simply have a different layout. Not saying a buffer more can splt things for the better. I believe and that's not new - read P. Rodgic- that the oap861 is a very good trade off on a soic layout without dip to soic adaptor with no further feedback after. is a good way to avoid the sorting out of discrete stage. But there is more than way to skin a cat. Look at Fran that liked another oap because it's suited best in his whole system... that's all about it is with diy.
