Curvy Chang thread

Getting there, things seem to be moving slowly and this build seems to be taking over my life at the moment, though I think in part its because now its dark on a night I cant get much done outside.
Finaly beeting the veneer in to submission, got it on and managed to get 3 coats of Rustins plastic coating on, it requires a good rub down then a few more coats of plastic coating to get a realy deep gloss finish, I like to give it a week between sets of coats as it dries solid after about 3 days and you can realy rub it down to get a nice finish for the next few coats. But there starting to look OK. Of course I've now got to redo my black satin paint inside the horn mouths, but I can finaly see what the finished cabs are gonna look like, which is a boost, also I dont want to rush the finish.

My camera is only a 2m one, so whether thats responsible for the not so good photo's or what I dont know, get jealous when I see all those nice clear photo's on other threads, though I am having a play and following some advice from Bob (Half Chang).

Edit, the gap between the top and front dosn't look that bad in the flesh, but terrible on the photo, must investigate tonite.

Looking very good Marc! Don't sweat the photos - you can't listen to them.

The light veneer and black horns show impeccable taste😉 - I really like how the two speakers' veneer will be book matched. It's little touches like that that display your craftsmanship.

Let's hope that the FE207s arrive soon and you can get down to the real business of pumping some music through those bad boys.

Nice work there Marc.

About the photos- it looks like you are using the flash on your camera. This will show up all sorts of stuff, and make the picture 'harsh'. I suspect that 2MP will be more than enough, esp. if you light the speakers using something other than the flash- a diffused light of some sort it good.

A price of tissue held over the flashgun wil soften things if you can't turn it off.

Thank you Bob, thanks for the satin black tip, I think it looks better than the mirror black, I think once the wood is a high gloss it will look better. When I've finished the wood i'll take a photo in sunlight cos it looks better.
We'll have to get a gallery of all the various Changs together, because I think there an impressive range of cabinets.

Cheers Jrevillug, I must have been replying to Bob. I'm going to try some early moring shots (if its sunny) as that is when my living room gets the sun. I agree the flash does make everthing look worse than it is, I'll try the tissue trick.
Cheers

Marce and Dave

Teaser looks very sexy. This should be quite spectacular all lit up.

Might consider a pattern block set at top and bottom of the baffle. Probably not needed for the long sides and could easily be done with clear flat and coated with what you use for the baffle face. Just to take the ring off of that baffle.

These items should be awesome sounding and even very musical, just to suit the coat de arms on the backside.
Bud

Cheers for the teaser Dave, must admit spent a few hours gently rubbing down the baffle coating so they look a lot better.
Bud, I was discusing adding some pattern blocks with Dave, you must have read our minds. I would be most grateful if you could illustrate the pattern please. I will be putting the final coats of plastic coating over the weekend, so could add the pattern before then.

Are you guys talking about doing something to the wood or on the driver cone? If the cone, what is being done and why?
Also, what are the dims of the phase plug and are they more for looks or style?

The discussion is about the wood... the cones have already been done. The phase plug dimensions are on my commercial site (these are the FE206eSR plugs) and that they make the driver look good is not their function, just a fortunate side-affect.

..............Wow

As if this business wasn't complicated enough.
Does it matter what box the drivers are in, as far as which treatments to use.
Do the results become more apparent with the size of the driver?
I have 206e in BiB but wish to rebox(Sachiko)
a new pair of 167e going into a homebrew spiral box;
and 127s in an OB breaking in and need a thin box of some sort(to frame a tv).
The 167s would be the easiest to get to for modification.
It occurs to me that it would have been cheaper to just buy them from you already done than to ship them across the country and back........must rest and think..............

Having seen the Olivia for 127e (not posted yet for dimensions) That would be your tall and thin solution for the tv.

I'm going over to the Sapwn thread to ask for some comparisons for my next 127e. It's Harvey or Olivia.
