so Im going to order a pair I think

how much sealed volume do these need?

I keep seeing ported enclosures?

im going to run them em 3 way with a small ambient tweeter at 8K ands up

my plan

midbass
50hz to 200hz

midrange
200-no crossover

tweet

8-10k up

sound good

or should I just leave the tweeter out since it is full range

just wonder if Ill get enough off axis repsonse in a vehicle in a small volume enclosure

and whats the rms power for the 8 ohm version?

I admire you not wanting a crossover for the mid-range but I'm pretty sure you're going to need at least a cap as a high-pass. Also, if you're going to use a tweeter just get the WR125S rather than the FR125S. Could make for a respectable two-way with the FR125S and a suitable mid-woof however (can you say Extremis?). I did something similar here and Dan W. has a huge super-duper tower design. My mid's in a 15L box and IIRC, Dan put his in a 6 liter.
Another possibility is putting the FR125 into a sealed 15 liter box and using an active bass unit crossed ~80Hz. I think that would kick!

So a few weeks back I got my little grubbies on a pair of CSS FR125s speakers. Now I had some minor experience with the original WR125s driver earlier this year and was impressed overall. But for the most part, it just needed a tweeter to make me happy in the upper end. I have been listening to the FR125s drivers now quite a bit and from the get-go, I liked them. No need for a tweeter here for my tastes. Bob has hit the nail on the head with this one. I think these will be putting a big hurt on Mr. Jordan's sales to come. Are they the end-all answer to audiophilia? No, but I wasn't expecting that either so no biggie right? I have had them in some .25 cube ported enclosures tuned to about 55Hz and the bass impressed most who heard them. Personally, I thought they were a bit "bloaty" sounding to me though. I think maybe a smidgen smaller and higher tuning would cure this for the most part. Bu tthen again, these are likely to be backed up by a sub in most systems so why bother shooting for the limits of the driver when it performs great without doing so. I then dropped them into some smaller sealed enclosures, right at about .15 cubes with moderate stuffing of polyfill. Took them back in the house and really liked what I heard. Listened to them for a bit then had other friends and family give them a listen as well. the majority liked them better sealed, just as I did. I have listened to everything from Pink Floyd, to my Blue Man Group DVD, Dave Mathews live at the Gorge DVD, to some acoustical blues, some bluegrass, to watching movies with these little guys and they rock in my book. Sure they need to be backed up by a subwoofer for rock and movies and the like (my opinion), but hey, it's a 5" driver...what were you really excpecting here? But I can say this, for 5" speakers, they get plenty loud for my family's likings. I think 5/7 of these and a good sub would make an awesome HT set-up for sure. The midrange clarity and smoothness is what stands out the most to me here. I thought the little Tang Band project I built was great for imaging and such, but these really do trump the TB's in all performance aspects if you ask me. I am in the process of building a TL for them, designed by the world-reknowned "dBDave" himself, so I am sure they will be even better yet. I will hopefully have pics and info on that coming soon. Plus the little sealed naked mdf pair are going to a friend's system to be played with and reviewed on better equipment than I have to offer at the time. So keep in touch and stay tuned...

I'd be interested in knowing what the F3 is for that size. Seems to me it would be above 90hz.

I am guessing it is about 85-90Hz by ear. I was planning on them being aperiodically loaded via Scan-Speak vents but they haven't arrived yet. Once they do, I am thinking they will be a bit better even. I will keep you posted. I will be OEM'ing these little gems locally as well Tim, just getting all my ducks in a row first here before I jump into it all.

4.25 litre = 0.15 ft^3 sim. Assumes net (altou subreacting the ! 0.28 litre driver volume makes a hardlt perceptable dif -- ie Q moves from 0.8525 to 0.8695) F3 just under 90, F10 about 55 Hz.

Excellent! Thanks Dave;

My bi-polar FR125's should be done in a few days; right now the drivers are "loosening up" in an undersized bi-polar MLTQWT designed for a 4" Tangband, even with the wrong volume and length they are still the most impressive full range driver that I have ever heard.

Thought I would use a single for the center channel, about 290cu " with the variovents, your suggestion will save quite a few bucks, (to be invested in some other part of the system of course!)

Thanks again.
