More info please

Hi Sam
very nice work.
In post #20 you say you will try & get schematic up of the crossovers.
I am keen to see these as I am looking at a similar project myself with FR125 & SDX7 in same MTW format you have used & for all intense & purpose a similar baffle size. Am I copying you? No. The idea started life as a Focal Utopia look alike (which received good WAF results)
Now you've lived with these for a while I'm sure many of us would appreciate an update & any further info.you can offer.

Schematic

Tim,

I'm trying to find the final crossover values I used. I believe the only difference from the one in the first post is that I changed the order of the high frequency crossover from a 2nd order to a 3rd or 4th. I'll try and dig up exactly what I did today for you.

Having used them now for a little while I can say that I really do enjoy them. I think the sound is excellent. My next project that I'm currently working on building some amps to bi amp them as I would like to give a little more power to the SDX7 for the low end.

I'll post back when I find the schematic.

Thanks for the interest,

Sam

Thanks for the reminder Dave.

The final crossover I'm using is as follows.

For the tweeter I went second order at 7200Hz. I used a 2.41 uF cap and a 0.20 mH inductor in the arrangement shown in the first schematic. (The attenuation resistors are also in there)

For the Mids low pass I used a second order low pass with a 0.27 mH inductor and a 1.84 uF cap. The high pass for the mid is a first order with a cap of 68 uF.

For the woofer I used a first order low pass with a 3.76 mH inductor.

So far I really like the way it sounds. The project I'm working on now it to bi amp them so that I can put more power to the SDX7 as they do sound a little strong on the high end.

Let me know if you have any other questions and I'll try to answer them a little faster.

Sam,

Can you vet this XO map. I guessed at the driver polarities, You also didn't mention a zobel on the SDX7 that was on the XO early in the thread.

Dave,

I never did do the cone treatment. I might have a try at it in the future but right now I'm working on another project that's taking up my time.

The XO you posted seems to be correct. I never put a zobel on the SDX7.

If there is any other information you were wondering about let me know.

I did a similar setup tonight with a discontinued Tangband tweeter (part number not known at this point). Only first order on the midrange Low Pass though. Why did you go 2nd Order Sam? My setup sounds nice. Just two boxes piled up with tweeter sitting on top so far. 10 litre sealed for SDX7, 5.5 litre aperiodic for FR125. I tried ported on SDX7 but the bass was flabby. A better less sibilant tweeter is now something I need. Ideas?
BTW, the pictures of SAMXT's boxes on this thread do not show up anymore....

Going to get back to rebuilding this in a nice box. Cut parts and routered baffles a few years ago, disassembled everything and it all sat in a pile of years. I Will try second order x-over this time as with first order it only sounds good with your head in a specific spot.
And someone reported me for rudeness and I got a warning from a moderator for my last post in this thread. What the heck? Because I used caps and an exclamation mark? Annoyed me so much I left for a couple years. And yes as Planet10 says these SDX7 and FR125 bottom out really easily despite what the specs say.
