So it turns out that the relay is defective. The switching contact was fused together. I will switch it out and report the results.

Just a question to see whether this is an option, since I am having some difficulty tracking down the source of the relay activation ground and may end up damaging the PS driver board in the process...

What are the dangers, and drawbacks possible if the relay was bypassed by connecting the input and output pads directly?

Ended up changing Q15 on the driver board and now the relay is operating properly. Did not have a 2sc2412 on hand but one site indicated an MMBTA06 could be used so I put that in, so far so good. Amplifier is working normally on the work bench and I will test it in a vehicle tomorrow.

At this point, this amplifier needed the +5v regulator changed, the output relay replaced, and Q15 on the driver board replaced in order to get back operational. Much of the stuff done probably did not need to be but it was good to confirm proper operation, and I sure learned a heck of a lot. Will be back if there is anything else needing to be done. Endless thanks to Perry Babin...
