Did try the lmg 1210 driver.


Did not work, much errors and get no signal out at it when use a symetrical supply.

It does work nice because it has own deadtime setup resistors, the lmg 1205 does well.

No it is a lineair amplifier indeed.

However I see developments who does give a interesting change, a possible openloop version who sounds as good or even better in class D.

The inductions however is a real problem when design in Gan, I do not now how strong such fet,s are like damaging the gate, I read this gert easely damaged with poor inductief pcb trages.

I saw that a lot of via,s is used in pcb trace, but paralleling small traces I think I get even lower inductions.

The way to use GaNFETs in my opinion is use pre-built modules so you don't have to solder the packages in the first place, for instance a pre-build 1/2 H-bridge: EPC9203

I have experience enough to tackle that induction sensitive stuff, I did also transmittors in past, who need also good pcb design, however I can not do 4 layers, but I think that is not such a problem, just place on top and use then whol bottom layer can be done.

Did try these Gan in simulation with a LM1503 driver, a newer version of the LM51XX.

in open loop, I get quite a nice result, when do this in btl I can have even lower HD.

Plot is 25Khz and 1Khz open loop, when do close the loop, I get -120dB. Did test also a special form of class D. sliding version ripple reduction who double the carrier, then possible even closer deadtimes and lower HD...

anyone thinking of doing a higher power amp? is the >1000W class of amps just a niche interest?

I like Gan systems devices and I'm surprised that no one has developed an amp around them (commercially or DIY). I personally have too many projects but using these devices you could make very compact multi kW amps.
 
Here she using IRS20957S chip who is a fet driver and has as such has to high deadtimes for Gan fets.

You need Gan drivers for the best6 options of high speed and low distortions.

Also the need of a daughterboard because of the high demands for the design with Gan, best is to always make separate boards for Gan sections and ananlog sections, that way designing good boards with very low induction in traces is possible.

Rail: +/- 180 V DC with all PA protections exist already
