Hi All,
Sharing an SMD amp I put together using a TPA3116D2. Schematics and everything available here: https://www.jcracoustics.co.uk/plans/
YouTube tutorial available on the design build as well here:
This one has Bluetooth and Li-Ion Charging built in. Just posted a new thread on it for those wanting more detail!
Let me know your thoughts!

Hi all
This is my project, it is not finished, Is a tri-amp system using TPA3255 with active crossover
I already test the crossover and they worked, the next phase is to finish the amp board
The system consist of
2 TPA3255 3E audio Boards for sub 100hz
1 custom TPA3255 amp above 100hz
Custom power boards
this is my first design so I made some mistakes but I have learned a lot

My new steel case that I fabricated and painted for the:
3E 2x DSP
3E 3251 (4ch)
3E 3255 (2ch)
Connex Electronic PSU (300W + 600W)
SpeakON connectors, and 2 extra XLR if I want to add subwoofers.
Jenvig wires.

The build is impressive too! What are those internal mesh covered interconnects ? They look really neat and tidy. Great stuff! 👌
A month later and I have a working amplifier!
This proof of concept includes:
It sounds MARVELOUS. Absolutely silent background, even with this mess of cabling. Zero noticeable power-on or -off transients. The very little heatsink on the 300A2 is warm, probably around 45C. There is plenty of detail and power available. I love it, and since it’s the latest amp I’ve built, it’s my current favorite. 🤓
My chassis plan is still in flux.
Thanks to Sami from MicroAudio and mdsimon2 for the support to get me to this working prototype. 👍
This proof of concept includes:
- IcePower 300A2
- MicroAudio SMPS630-G
- +-50 VDC
- +-15 VDC Aux
- +-12 VDC Vdrive
- Additional capacitors (2*10000uF per rail) between SMPS and amplifier, also from MicroAudio
- 300A2 wiring harness set from Ghent Audio
- Cheap UPC1237 speaker protection board from Amazon

Nice going von Ah!
Its amazing how much Punch is packed in that little module. Total opposite philosophy compared to what the plank amp sits on top of....

I’ve named it The Sleeper.
Classic Hitachi lateral TO3s on the back for bling.
Meters aren’t moving, yet, but I couldn’t resist an audition.
Sounds great. A little mains hum that I will track down later, but it’s not noticeable more than a foot away.
Big Summer Amp is live.

Here is a tpa3250 board I put together for my bass shaker project.
It uses a modified 36v 5amp smps that was $14 on Amazon that is adjusted down to 32v.
It is a dual mono with a single input and two active preamps with volume and frequency adjustment. For this project the preamps are just single supply and I powered them with a step down buck converter off from the main supply.
I was going to use this board for another project but just decided to build this for the bass shakers. They are 4 ohm and 50w so this should be more than enough. A 3116 would have probably been just fine but they are 4 ohm so I would really want dual 3116 chips anyway and I already had this one...
The IEC is a little bit tighter to the smps capacitor than I would like but it really isn't bad.
I left just a little room to add some power supply cap between the smps and the amp but I haven't done it yet.
I am working on another subwoofer based on a tda8954 but I am still not quite happy with it. That bigger amp uses a dual supply preamp and a dual 36v smps.
And finally I need to finish my 5.1 surround sound project. It has a IR controlled preamp, a dolby decoder, 3 mono tpa3116 and 1 stereo tpa3116 boards.

I Just completed a 6 channel Starkrimson, with boards spanning 3 different revisions. Originally 4 of these were powering my main speakers, but I need more power for those, so they have been re purposed into this 6 channel build. It is powering my side surrounds and atmos speakers. All measurements were taken with a QA-403, and every amp hits specifications no problems! Channel 6 idle noise is a bit higher then the rest, and some mains leakage due to the proximity of the IEC connector, but nothing audible.
The difference from running the 6 speakers from my Yamaha RX-A6A to this amp is night and day, and I honestly was not expecting such a drastic change.
3 channels each are powered off of a Microaudio SMPS630-SO power supply, which I have used before in my Class AB Wolverine amplifier builds, and are fantastic low noise high power supplies!
Thanks to @stuartmp for The ground lift and T-ground PCB's
Thanks also to @Cresnet and @orchardaudio for making such great products available to us!
