Class D Amp Photo Gallery

TPA3116 with AirPlay/UPnP or Bluetooth (depending on 30-pin adapter), and now Chromecast Audio. :)

Might redo in a nice case, as Chromecast Audio pretty much obsoletes the others. Driving a pair of Paradigm Atoms. :music: May just build everything into one of the ($5 thrift store) Atoms...

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

Little white Chromecast status light conveniently shows through the window.

Can you please tell me a bit about the bluetooth add on boards, or do you have links to supplier etc? I've been looking at doing that sort of setup for a while. Can you have normal RCA input as well as the bluetooth?

Thanks

I didn't use a Bluetooth board. The case was salvaged (thrift store find) for its 30-pin Apple connector. There are plenty of cheap 30-pin Bluetooth adapters on Amazon and EBay. AirPlay/UPnP support is via a Lario 30-pin adapter.

The board on the right side is an isolated DC-DC converter, to supply 5V to the 30-pin connector, and now to the Chromecast board, from the 24V power supply. Isolated converter is required to avoid nasty ground loop noise that a simple buck converter produces.

Not as tidy and professional as some amps here, but this is my Connexelectronix TA3020V3k with IRPF4321 output MOSFETs and +-49,5 V rails. The amplifier board itself is hidden below the power supply board. Sounds great for bass in bi-amped system.

You cannot get higher Vpp value than your DC swing. Assuming you have +-100V DC your maximum Vpp will be 200V.

It's really simple to understand:

peak-rms.gif

Take y axis as rail voltage (+-2V DC) from which you are generating your signal. In such case your maximum Vpp is 4V and Vrms is about 1.41V.

OK, so you know Vpp, but dont know (full) bridge. In full bridge the voltage is measured between noninverting and inverting outputs. With power rails of +/-100 V the theoretical maximum output voltage is +200V minimum is -200 V, so Vpp can be up to 400 V.

Do not act like a douchebag. I'm very well aware of it - I was talking about a normal configuration, not BTL.

The post was meant for people to get familiar with such stuff, nothing else.

As I see it a question was asked:

"I wonder how you do 280Vpp from a +-100VDC supply?"

And the correct answer was (and still is):

"In bridge."

And then came:

"Still nope. "

Which I do not think is correct.

And then came the discussion and definitions.

So we have all the information and definitions and can move on to pictures of more great amplifiers.

My $0.02

Nice work on a safe AC side of the power supplies.
