It's a question of pedigree.😀
With money to buy a Ferrari, I would buy an Aston Martin instead.

You old Anglophile! 😀 (Would it have a snubberized ejector seat?)

Ahhh, maybe.😀
Btw Aston Martins these days come with Linn systems/speakers, custom made for those cars.
Not Goodmans, but Linn...
That's pedigree.

A pretty good take (on the cars) if you ask me....

With money to buy a Ferrari, i'd buy a Suburu wagon (and a Miata) and a Ducati (probably with change left to build a garage to house them)

Re: digi amp
My T-Amp is now running perfect with the right PSU. I borrowed a Panasonic SA-XR30 for comparison. CD-Player/ digital drive is a NAD 514 - not the best CD-Player, but very musical. The Panasonic is far ahead in any respect, even musicality.

Because of the low price of Panasonic its not worth to build a t-amp.

Better diy something, because we're dreaming too high...😀
Back to the Ciare...

Hi back to the Ciare plot!
How about trying the Dayton 3/4inch tweeters
DAYTON ND20TA-6 or the
DAYTON ND20TB-4 REAR-MOUNT
Could cut them down even more and either mount them on an arm over the driver on try for a centre placement
with some sort of glued in mount.
Seem to be cheap enough. Remember some Italian made
melon shaped speakers with centre mounted tweeters
On the cars: I once owned a Daimler limo and enjoyed
my brother's Lotus Europa but that's dating me! Used to
see those AM DB6's on the road near Newport Pagnell.
Very nice.
Really enjoying this tread.

You get the Coles Mylar Supertweeters (the ones from the Spendor BC1 - good speakers, but I am glad I have migrated to the Ciares) in any desired impedance. You can get it in 2 Ohm or something to get a matching SPL - when your amp likes strange impedance curves. But I would be more confident about a high sensitivity 8 Ohm horn solution with energy heated away by a resistor.
CH250 Burn-in time
Nuuk and others,
What is your experience of the burn-in time for the CH250. Do they sound OK at first go ? How about the bass ? Becuase the excursion is small, does this (typically) need a long break-in time before the bass gets full.
Best Regards

Yes they need quite a lot of burn in time in my experience and start to grow on you slowly.
But I find they do need the help of a sub. I am currently drving mine with an unmodified T-AMP so I am not using the subs. I widened the baffles to 65 cm but it still sounds a bit bass light. Of course, with those tiny input caps in the T-AMP, it may be a bit unfair to blame the Ciares for the lack of bass. I'll know better when I modify the T-AMP! 😉
I don't know if Ropie is reading this but he heard my Ciares without the subs when they were driven by myLM3886 Gainclone and he may care to offer his opinion.
This weekend, I tried the Ciares with my SI T-AMP and the Autostriure 2020 amp but it didn't seem to work for some reason. Female vocals were rather too prominent and there just wan't that 'nice' factor.
So, I have re-instated the Goodmans 201 baffles and I'm afraid that I have to say that, as good as the Ciare 250's are, these modified 201's are a street ahead. Perhaps that's not surprising given the original build quality and the fact that they were re-built/modified by one of the best speaker builders in the UK!
I haven't the room (or desire) to keep two large open baffle systems here so it looks like there will be a mint pair of Ciares going if anybody is interested!

Ohhh me too me too
I have a pair of PH250 enclosed in a reflex box, the project is from Ciare as well.
It is driven from my 2A3 PP monoblocks and I am quite happy of the results, I could not believe but highs are good too.
I would try the open baffle but I really don't know where to start from ... would any of you suggest me what dimension the panel should have. Consider the room is something like 5mt*4mt?
Grazie.
Gianluca (an ABSOLUTE beginner)

Here are some nice baffle constructions for the PHY-HP that may fit for the Ciare CH250 as well.

I noticed that Gluca has the PH250. How does that differ from the CH250? 😕
CH250 -> 4ohm
PH250 -> 8ohm
plus other differences
Thanks for the link el Ol ... but what dimensions should I go for????
Did any of you tried a supertweeter with CH/PH 250?

I tried a tweeter with my baffles but didn't think that it was really necessary (after taking it out again to hear the difference).
Try searching for the thread about Norbert's open-baffles. He used the CH250 without and sub or tweeter and found it to be satisfactory. From memory, the baffle size was around 67 cm wide by 105 cm tall with the driver slightly offset to one side.

The PH250 is from Ciares Pro Audio range and has a MUCH bigger magnet. Qts is 0.33 while CH250 has 1.36. So the PGH250 is really not suitable for OB and should stay in the reflex box.
If someone needs more info on the PR250 - i´ve got the Ciare catalogue.
