Be very careful where you purchase any Hakko products. The fakes are everywhere (including amazon, ebay and especially any chinese site) and in comparison to the originals perform terribly and are often unreliable. As with everything, you get what you pay for. If the price offered is substantially lower than that from an authorized Hakko distributor, guess what....

Let's see.
BTW, what about tips?
Would there be any issue if I use tips from other manufacturers on the Hakko iron?
From where do you guys buy original tips?

BTW, I got the Hakko FX Soldering iron from amazon.
I checked how to verify it's authentic but there is one red flag.
The sticker on the bottom of the main unit is small unlike the longer sticker on the genuine stuff.
BUT, the internal parts like that ic chip is like that of a genuine one.
Any comments?

I've been pleased with the T12 soldering station kit that I got from Banggood. Of course, you need a soldering iron to assemble it. I picked the T12 style because the tips integrate the heater and thermocouple, which makes them more expensive, but hopefully more responsive. (And if the clone tips were no good, I could buy a real Hakko tip and for all intents and purposes have a real Hakko.) Power supply is a 19V Dell laptop brick, but it works nicely even at 12 volts (and from a 3S lithium-ion pack). For tip cleaning, I found a 3-pack of real copper/brass scouring pads at a supermarket (check with a magnet: many are just plated steel).

The price was a steal at the time (under $16 Canadian). Currently out of stock, and maybe discontinued, since the UI for changing settings is terrible (had to watch a Youtube video to make sense of the instructions).
