Those are from an older Classe preamp and are nice as well. A bit too long for my taste. 1" dia.

The clear anodized Classe knobs are clearly my favorites of the bunch. I guess that they could be made a bit shorter. I feel that they are clearly the nicest knobs of all the pictures you posted.

How 'bout the ML knobs at 1.25"?

I'm with you on your favorite, the look of the older ML knobs is nice. Maybe done at 1.25" (1.5" max) to match the proportions of the chassis better?

Here's the close up of that knob. While Classe knobs seem to win at first impression, those ML knobs require a bit of getting used too. But after that, there is no turning back. They just fit your hand like no othe rknob (just some knob talk😉

Only just caught up with this thread (been getting too excited about the group kit order on the other thread). But my vote is for the ML knobs.

btw, one of the nicest-looking British amps used very slim control knobs a bit like the Classé. This was the original Cambridge Audio from the mid-70s. So the Classé would do too...

I'll be ready any time now, I'm only waiting for the web site to be arranged.

I received quotation yesterday and it's in line what I expected. I upgraded some panels and materials.

Front panel will be 3/8 thick, rear panel is 3/16". The heatsink assembly (3 x 2 x 0.50 bar) will be made out of copper for better heat transfer and possible gains in sound 😉

Only the outside panels are brushed, everything is clear anodized. I will supply all the screws and stand offs necessary for construction.

The unfinished chassis is $15 less than a finished one, so I don't think it's worth to bother with that option.

The finished chassis, as promised, is $150 USD (this include my local, 15% taxes).

The price is valid for this forum group order only. If ordered later, it will be approx. $200 (and still available from my upcoming website).

I assume Cardas long RCAs with thick nut (GRFA-L thick) with be most appropriate with a rear panel thickness of 0.1875? This is based on info from diycable.com which states:
Long threads/thick nut = .142" to .350" Chassis thickness

I still like the Classé-knobs best, even in their original size. They add a classy touch to this already very nice design 😎

On the other hand, more standard knobs like the Sonic Frontiers' take away much of the specialness of this design and turn it into "yet another poweramp"...

Also, please accept my apologies for bringing up the issue of knobs in the first place. Though we were allowed some interesting insight in world economics, labour costs in all parts of the world and various production techniques, much of the discussion became way too personal.

It is most certainly the best idea to put Peter in charge for the knobs as well, since there will be no additional shipping costs for us. Also, we can trust in his commitment in quality... 😉
