Cervical Spine Degenerative Arthritis…how are you dealing with it?

The human version is tough but not tough enough for heavy jolts
There's some evidence to suggest that, within certain limits, the body responds to extra joint loading by producing thicker cartilage. Certainly load bearing exercise strengthens muscles and bones. But it's always a matter of degree.

The person that invents artificial cartilage
There are companies that are experimenting with a 'scaffold' material that can be placed into the knee and then have cartilage grow into it. I also remember reading about an Israeli company that was experimenting with an artificial meniscus cartilage, though my knee surgeon thought it was never going to work...

When it is gone it is gone….for now*.

Till today it has not been successfully artificially created. In Germany 1 out of 3 males and 1 out of 2 females have severe cartilage defects after 60.

Only in december 2023 a hospital in Utrecht, the Netherlands reported to have found a way to have the body reproduce new cartilage again.

*They do this “IMPACT” treatment now officially and successfully I just learned which is very good news. Within predefined boundaries though. Please use Google Translate du - en:

Beer !

Water is important for the fascias. I made no squats but was good at raising the elbow, had to reduce it dramatically, stopping is even better.

One should find his own ideal water quantity aside the other drinks (coffee, tea, etc) , 1.5 to 2 liter of clear water is ok for me, more the summer. But aging we are less thirsty ! That does not mean we should drink less.

My wife never participated in any kind of sports and guess what? She received two new hips a couple of years ago.So there is more to osteoarthritis than wear and tear.I think It's s some kind of auto immune disease. The body attacking its own tissue.

Overloading structurally and extremely by own choice does not add positive effects to normal wear and tear. Normal wear and tear that can already be detrimentally influenced by other factors in life that one did not choose (and possibly did not even notice).

Women have way higher chance on cartilage defects anyway, overloading or not.

Inflammation is at the origin of a lot of diseases in several different fields, it is hard to sum it up as often it is an holistic approach that needs to be understood about our body, but a scientist has to focus on a field as it is so large. 10 years ago that hype about microbiot, fascias, mix of pills, focused on that... what is moving here has consequences elswhere.

Most of the modern medecine focus on suppressing the symptoms, not the disease. Hoppefully we understand more and more and we can slide sooner and sooner on health safety to reduce the deases due to the agging ! Or at least to age better. Now life is a dice, but sooner choices migth have consequences... You pay the bill latter ! When young we have this imortal feeling that made us burn our life... That's hormonal ! Ask your wives...

Just to clarify a couple things.
The person who said Aleve is Naproxen is correct.
The person who said Naproxen is strong Advil is incorrect.
Aleve is over the counter at 200 mg.
Naproxen is by prescription at 500.mg.
Tramadol 50mg. is the least habit forming or addictive opiod and is so popular because of it's lack of side effects.

I have been on more medications than I can count on two hands and two feet over the decades and I find Tramadol to be wonderful as it does the job without interfering with anything else.

In addition to my childhood incidents like falling out of a tree, through a bamboo garage roof etc, In 1998 I was riding a bicycle and was hit head on by a car. That shattered my tib/fib, and when I came off the bicycle I impacted the windshield from my hips down. This snapped me up in a twisting motion from which I came down on the hard road surface. I have been Rear ended in a car while at a full stop for a red light (the impact from the offending BIG truck pushed my car all the way across a divided four lane intersection. finally, two years ago I was struck head on by a drunk driver who passed out and pulled into my lane (80MPH/127KPH combined speed). Then there are an additional 7 incidents of minor consequence. None have been my fault, but here I am. I have one bulged disk in my cervical vertebrae, and an additional 4 bulged disks in my lumbar area. I have prescriptions for opioids, which a rarely use. The best results I have had is though Physical Therapy and exercises. I also own a pneumatic neck stretch machine which I find to be helpful.

As far as Kratom goes, it is sold locally in gas stations. Most users are young people looking for a high. I will pass on it.

Physical Therapy and exercises
That will get you a long way. A sympathetic and informed physio can tailor exercises that challenge but are achievable and can offer progress over time.

But finding that physio, that's something else. I've tended to go for those who specialise in recovery from sport or other injury. But then their advertising always says something like that...
