Hi Huang,

I've been out of the country and out of touch for a while, but now I want to get my project restarted.

You said you were going to send a replacement part to try. I am interested in building a couple more of these, so I was planning on ordering two more units. Should I go ahead and buy these on eBay or payPal you directly. If you haven't shipped a replacement, maybe you can put it in with that shipment.

Let me know.

Cheers,

Hi Huang,

Box with CD-ROM controllers arrived yesterday. Thanks for the quick shipping. Replacement display seems to function normally, so that problem is solved.

However, I am still having the strange control problem with the Plexwriter laptop drive. When I insert a disk, it plays and displays normally, and the >> and << controls work fine. But if I hit > or ", then after that, none of the controls work at all. Is this a known non-functional situation for some types of drives? I do have the drive set for "master" and had the contoller working fine earlier with a full-size Pioneer DVD-burner.

Have people out there had good results with any particular brand/model of slim laptop drives? I am reluctant to start buying drives at random to see which ones would work. People like the Plextor drives, so I started there, but I'd really like one that works. Thoughts?

few questions

Hi Slowgay,

I am very interested in the controle kit. Just a few questions before purchase:

-will it controle all like old and newer type CDROM, writers and DVD or
is it limited to some types

- is the remote controle easy to replace if broken (i have bad
experience with broken remote controles)

- would shipping costs be more cost effective if i at the same time add
other products with the purchase. (i am thinking about buying some
audiograde caps as well or even more stuff)

Hi Slowgay,

Forget about question 1 (already found the answer in posts)

I made a payment for a controller kit directly through paypal (not Ebay)
is that oke with you?

looking forward to get the kit here

Gerard

Hi Gerard
Sorry! I forgot to give you a reply before.
Yes,It's OK to make payment through paypal(not eBay).
The total price of the controller with LCD display is 30.99USD now.
Lower than before~
It can safe 4USD(shipping) if you add other products with the purchase at the same time.

'''- is the remote controle easy to replace if broken (i have bad
experience with broken remote controles)'''
If the remote broken, you need to buy a new one the same as before.I can sale it separate in a low price with regular Air Mail if your remote broken.

After today's mail, I can report the utter unsuitability of a Plextor PX-610U slim portable drive to use witht these controllers.

The main connector on the drive is some different type of edge connector that has only about 8-10 pins, so unless someone hereabouts has some insight, I'll be listing it on eBay and trying something else.

The other Plextor I tried has the right connections, but somehow doesn't work properly with the control buttons--at least I'm assuming it's the drive and not a faulty adaptor board.

I've been trying to find a compatible laptop to build a portable CD player, and I keep striking out with these little drives. I have a Teac CD-224E on order maybe that will work, but I have no way of knowing.

Thoughts, anybody?

OK, here's another one that doesn't work.

I just picked up a Sony AW-G540A CVD/CD Rewritable laptop drive. Same problem. Plug it in, turn it on, and the disk starts to play and the >> and << buttons work, but if I hit the >/" button, the display stops functioning and the display stays the same even if the disk is changed.

Huang, anyone...any thoughts or suggestions?
