Compatibility list

Hi all,

I want to make a list of compatible and non-compatible drives. Could you please support me with your experiences?

What I need? Just the brand and type of a drive and compatibility to the controller. The list will be prsented on a dutch forum, but I will put a copy here.

Best regards,
Mischa

What is everyone using for power supplies? - a computer power supply really isn't ideal due to the fan and possible electronic noise affecting circuitry. Anyone made a dedicated one rather than a walwart or anything?

How is the soundstage with the various cd players?

How do they compare to say a basic DVD player transport with DAC when they both use digital out?

Sorry about all the questions it is just that I am considering making one with either my Lite-on, acer or diamond data drives.

Cheers.

Maybe italian mail service is s**t... I'll re-check mail this evening.

I'm currently testing a cd-rom with a 15 years old 100W AT SMPS, from a 80486 PC, with brand new caps... it works good! ....and I'm searching for a good low-cost DAC...🙄

Hi Robertc & Acid_k2

Have you received your kit?If you got it just left me a message. Thanks

Well I got my kit yesterday. I hooked it up real quick to verify that it works properly and everything. I'm powering the actually controller/VFD off a usb port for now. I took a quick video, it works great off my plextor drive and there is just a couple second spot in the beginning where it spools real fast and is a bit noisy (remember outside a chassis) and then it slows down and is completely silent. I think the plextor/VFD kit setup is going to be a winner! I haven't had a chance to listen to it yet because I don't have a volume control on my dac. Basically my setup right now is PC to DAC then DAC to AMP. So my PC controls volume until TPA releases the AC1. I have to dig out my pot volume control I have stashed somewhere.
