I did my research on external passive crossovers and decided to stick with keeping them inside the speaker enclosures. I secured the PCBs to the bottom of the enclosures with brass screws on top of nylon spacers. Also, I glued the components to the PCB with GE silicone II (neutral cure silicone rubber) to mitigate vibration issues.
I am planning to test the crossover and drivers before I box it all up. Does anyone have a procedure for performing a safe initial test? Don't want to fry a grand worth of parts. Thanks.
That's a good question, I can't say I have an answer for you. I usually just triple check the wiring then bring the volume up slow and make sure things sound good. Anyone with a real method?
Looking good, I'm looking forward to seeing the veneer!

You need to get these fired up! Think of it as a Christmas present to yourself. Removable rear baffle?

That's the plan.
2bz,
Good to see the progress.
Besides getting these fired up you need to share some listening impressions too. 🙂

I took a break but am now back at the Carreras. Everything is built and now I am assembling. I thought that the plastic terminal cups looked cheap so I switched to gold anodized single terminals (after I cut the cup holes obviously).
Merry Christmas.

Looks like you are just a few minutes away from being able to listen to them! What were you thinking for a finish again?
I have them all assembled, sans the wood veneer of course. I took them for a test drive with Dire Straits Alchemy Live, a particularly well engineered CD. Played on a Samsung BD-H6500 blu-ray player through a 1976 Luxman L-5 integrated amp. And.....they are spectacular! I have never heard cymbals resolved as well as the Hiquphon OW1s do. Excellent deep sound stage. My kid's Daft Punk records on his B&O 5005 turntable even sounds good!
I am going to try the cardas room set up tonight.

Zebrawood is one of my very favorite woods in appearance. With just a clear coat it really pops, but using an oil first will give it a little darker appearance if you want that.
I'm glad you had a good first impression. I'm still 100% happy with my pair. I've just about become a one speaker household with them. My only other pair are Quarks, just because they are so portable.
I've made no real progress on my DCPP amp, I've been working on too many other projects. So right now I am using my Carreras with a NAD D3020. It's ok, but I do feel like I lost something special when I moved the TU-8200.

That one is fantastic, really like the zebrawood veneer. I'm sure the pair will make for quite the statement in your house, and if the looks weren't enough to talk about, they sound awesome too!
Be sure and leave some listening impressions, I've really been thinking of building these.

Just to clarify, the speakers are in my kid's room. Didn't want anyone the think I had a fluorescent green living room!
I really like the zebra wood veneer, too. I used two coats of minwax polyurethane and it darkens up nicely. That being said the zebra wood doesn't photograph well. They look better in person.
The bass is spectacular for speakers of any size. I am also very happy with the Hiquphon tweeters. As I said before, the high freq resolution is amazing.
I do think that they are going to need some time to burn in though. I'll let you know in the summer. If you are thinking of building a pair of quality bookshelves, I'd recommend these. I've not heard better, at any price.

I missed they were for your kid, if you mentioned it earlier. That's one lucky kid!
At 14, HE is heavily addicted to ultra high end DYI audio. At least, that what I tell my wife....
Your kids ears will forever be protected from phony hifi stuff in high end stores as he grows up. He knows better. That's a good thing.
