Dão.
Yes, very good wine.😎
janneman said:But, in that case, NO talk about blind/sighted tests, OK? I get so tired of doing what feels like explaining an orgasm to a virgin.
I see...
Better listen to some music, then.😀

Mr. Carr, Mr. Pass, Mr. DiGiacomo, Mr. Dean, Mr. Elliot, Mr. Holton, Mr. Clausen, Mr. Curl, Mr. Boström, Mr Dieckmann, Mr. Loesch, Mr. Andersen, Mr. Daniel and many more, do you use "snubbed" power supplies? If yes, why? If no, why not?
I certainly cannot be regarded as skilled designer, as I mostly build my equipment following intuition and good advice (and of course my ears), but whenever such advice appears, I try things.
You might noticed that in a past I had quite big arguments regarding Zobels and regulated supplies for GC amp; I simply didn't like them.
However, as I mentioned already in this thread, last week I tried Carlos' suggestion with regards to snubbers in GC supply (and big caps) and right away I liked the results. It is better even comparing to battery supply I was using up untill now. There is more bass slamm but at the same time the mids and highs are not veiled by anything (like it was in a case of regulators). There is more midrange presence and dynamics, but also what suprises me, more micro detail, something I wouldn't really expect.
The whole thing makes up for an improved GC supply and I would greatly recommmend it to everybody. Well done Carlos.
PS: please note that I'm using pretty good components overall: BG N caps on the PCB and Jensen 4 pole caps after rectifiers, YMMV.
janneman,
I too have been sceptical about testing methods of my latest amp mods because 9 times out of 10 the change suggested by forum members results in an improvement. Most of the results were as I had expected BEFORE I did the mod. This is too good to be true?? Are the forum members that good?? or have I been lucky.
Anyway I am very happy with my "perceived" or otherwise changes especially the snubbered PSU. I could be deluding myself but what the heck... I'm happy.
Maybe this is a right brain, left brain thing where logic and emotions are battling for supremacy. I think people should follow what they believe is right and leave others to do the same.

Yes, spot on.
Maby one day some start realizing that it's possible to make a high-end chip-amp.😎
Konnichiwa,
But he forgot the corollary, namely:
"When you DO NOT know what you are listening to, there is no garantee that your opinions might be completely unbiased."
Removal of one type of bias only is insufficent to ansure a truely unbiased evaluation.
But the same people have not botherd to provide counter tests which allow them to illustrate the relevance of blind tests. They merely illustrated that people in blind and sightest tests react differently, at a statistcally significant level. This does not per se imply that one tests result are more accurate than the other test results.

Don't count on that.
I know that he knows perfectly how to explain this PSU like I didn't see anybody do it here.
But that I have received on my PM today, so it's private.
What I'm absolutely sure now is that my ears are in shape, they are a good tool, and that with this PSU I was on the right path.

Maby more than you think.
Peter Daniel said:You might noticed that in a past I had quite big arguments regarding Zobels and regulated supplies for GC amp; I simply didn't like them.
Funny you should mention zobels, that is the one thing that made no "perceived" difference to the three amps I tried them on. But, BEFORE I tested them I DIDN'T think they would make a difference. So another case of proving myself right. I beleive the issue may be speaker/cable related and YMMV.

Yes Kuei, absolutely.😎
But nevermind... it's useless...

Of course it is...😉
Konnichiwa,
Sorry, I am not a "skilled designer" (I assume the Loesch included in your list is Dr. Arthur Loesch?) but I not use snubbered supplies. HOWEVER, I also do not use traditional style bypassing either.
I do tend to pay attention to PSU Impedance and usually use components and circuits that keep this controlled and well behaved.

You forgot Mr. Formaldehyde.......or is it Mr. Creosote?
Whatever............better bring a bucket..............I going to be sick.

Key to the good results is maximaly short supply traces. Look at attach, there is an example of shortest traces which you can make. Supply rail is made by copper prism, which is also " subheatsink " ( insulated from " main " heatsink ). I am using this configuration in all my amps and I have never problems, 'cos supply trace have only a few cm and rail impedance is brutal low ( prism have diameter two cm sqr ).

Carlo, as you certainly know, my chip amp is made by the same principle : PS at the same PCB like PA, shortest supply traces etc. . Results are by my opinion good enough and I mean that upgradind by snubber will be ( in this concrete case ) very slight. At this time I can't try it, 'cos I have any module 😉 .
Carlos, do you mean seriously, that this stupidity is long time searched " Holy Grail ", which is healed all amps and shot them to the " listening heaven " ?
Kuei Yang Wang:
Do you think those components and circuits would help in this situation (chipamps) ? and if you do then would you mind enlightening us ?
btw, do you like Indian movies ? 😉
Carlosfm:
Carlos, why do you think what Upupa said does not apply to Chip amps ? Here I go again...

Carlosfm:
Upupa, don't mix your "other" amps with these chip amps.
Try the snubber on your LM4780 amp.
