Burning Amp 2025!!

How about just renting a car at SFO and driving up?
I was born with two legs and I enjoy using them. Besides, car rental is pretty expensive these days.

If you're planning to make more of a vacation out of it and go sightseeing before/after BAF, going by car is basically the option. Though, I would consider renting in Petaluma and taking the shuttle. I bet it's much less expensive to rent a car outside of the airport than it is inside.

But, hey... Each to their own.

You guys have not driven on the 405 during rush hour... it's all relative. I love to drive and I find SF to be just a regular city. I mean, it's not like you got to deal with the people from New Jersey who act lost on the streets of Manhattan....

BTW, is there a shuttle in Petaluma? Oh man! That's so mass transit like. I had no clue. I just prefer having my own wheels, that's all.

When in California
Do as in California
Get a car and stick to the number 2 lane at no less than 80 mph.
Leave the number 1 lane to the locals.
Remember, the White Zone is for loading and unloading only!

😉

Anyhow, I'll let you guys do your own planning, I gave you my two bits about how I did it the last two years and how I've driven on the Bay Area for eons.

I'm gonna be doing mass transit in Japan. Wife won't let me rent a car. I mean, how hard could it be to drive on the wrong side of the road with signs that might as well be Greek to us?

Peace man ☮️.... I just gave you my take on the trip.

Done the 405 in WA as well. Many times. A different story. I meant the 405 in SoCal. 😛

Although the 205 in Portlandia is the worst! 😱 :zombie:

Everything I write is in humor... don't take things too seriously. You'll get a heart attack.

Have fun.

No Totos were implied in this post. 🚽🚽🚽

Is anyone planning on bringing any DIY speakers?
Ive got a few power amplifiers, preamplifiers id like to bring which are DIY but no DIY speakers to showcase.
It would be great if someone could bring sone efficient speakers preferably built in the classic style (in boxes)

Those amps look beautiful. Tell us more.
The set of 4 is a project i did, a scratch build of the ultralinear circuit from the Acrosound catalog using TO300 transformers and 12db global feedback. I used an extra beefcake power transformer, solid state rectification and a choke input power supply.
They work very well.
They sound as good as my MC-30S

The other pair is a someone elses failed project which i rebuilt as an ultralinear williamson.
It uses the A-430 potted ultralinear transformer. 20 db global feedback and since i didn't design these they are limited to about 40 watts due to an anemic power supply which would be better suited to a A-470 transformer making 35 watts.
I need to add one octal socket to each chassis in order to power my moocher preamps.
The Preamp is a Members Only preamp which is a design i put together from several other designs.
It features relay based source selection.
Moving coil RIAA amp using cinemag step up transformers.
Mm input as well as 3 line level inputs.
All built point to point by hand without the help of CnC machines.
Heck, i dont even own a computer...

I might bring my Fairchild 412 turntable as well but its not really DIY, i put a tonearm on it but it had already been drilled for that tone arm. In order to show off my sweet moving coil preamp, ill need to bring a tt with a moving coil cartridge, right...
So yes, bring your horn loaded speakers and we will listen to music the way God intended, From vinyl, tubes, and horns...

Tempted to rent a moving truck and bring horns. The Altec A7s that I bought 20 years ago (and was forced to pass along) have finally made it back to me. A bit rougher than I originally got them. Currently have JBL 2384 horns and 2435 beryllium drivers on top of the 825/416 boxes for fun. Might drop 2226H woofers in them like Tom Danley did for an extra octave on the bottom.

Also have cherry tractrix Edgar salad bowl horns for the 1.5" drivers. Oh, and then there's the Lycan 808 multicell horns too...

With a big enough truck I could also bring my coaxial Vortex 15s that came to burning amp a few times already.

Need to spend a bunch of time on crossovers for all of these but probably wont have time. Any measurement/MiniDSP/Dirac wizards wanna play? I've got a couple of those too. Maybe just some rough passive filters with dsp running cleanup to allow different amps to be easily swapped in?

ra7, what filters are you running these days?

Last year was so easy with the little Fostex FE103sol speakers I brought though. Not sure about bringing all the big stuff.

@Midnightmayhem just amazing!

@PSz. , your altec+2384 sounds amazing. I think we chatted briefly last time and you showed me pics of the system. Was really cool. Start a thread in the multiway forum. Lots of people have similar systems and a ton of experience. You will get plenty of input.

Mix of passive crossover and dsp room/speaker correction. But planning to be dsp-free before BAF :xfingers:

Howdy, @PSz. ! I would be glad to kick in $100 to help defray the cost of renting a truck, and filling it with petrol, and suffering the outrageous $0.49 per mile "depreciation" fees. I think there's probably a pretty good chance that other BAF-2025 attendees might also decide to make their own pledges towards your project!
