Building the Lhotse designed by Scottmoose

Plan for at least today;

  • adding the BR ports,
  • installing the damping material,
  • mounting the right side panels 😎.

Tomorrow milling the outer diameter in the baffles and connect them for breaking in and test playing them.
Later on the cabinets will be fine tuned with fine sanding and painting.

BR ports installed.
Cabinets damped with the best damping material I ever used.
Cabinets now closed waiting for milling the hole for the beautiful driver 😍 😍 .

YEEEEESSSSSS! beautiful deep sounds here 😍😍. Breaking in those Totem poles 🤣😋👊🏽👍🏾👌🏾🥳🥳🥰🥰 Here still in the coarse cabinets that still need to be fine-tuned and finished, temporary cabling and still without the base. Sounds very very good 🤪👌.

Interesting bases. Are these custom? or did you repurpose a ready-made granite disc?

I integrated soapstone slabs in the base of my microTowers to add weight and to give an extremely solid (and hard) surface beneath the vent.

And I've said before about you making baseless statements. Mild longitudinal bracing is optional as clearly stated in the notes, and was accounted for in the design if people wish to use it (as also stated: it's actually the default assumption for the alignment). Not being a cretin, I do actually know the effect it has, because I

a/ Designed the speaker, and
b/ Tested it to confirm the effects.

The effects were, as expected:

a/ No difference in tuning, other than without there is a 1/4dB increase in output at Fb, which is within driver, environmental, construction & measurement tolerance.
b/ A 40% (with the basic longitudinal strips assumed) increase in lateral panel rigidity -already quite good, but useful around the central bending point in particular, and if it's used to brace the motor structure to the rear of the enclosure, a small additional improvement in distortion performance. There were no other effects, nor should there be unless you place it in direct proximity to the driver without damping -which isn't a bright idea for any enclosure.

Perhaps you could share the results of your equivalent testing?

Okay: I've stated the facts, based on actual measurements about what the optional longitudinal bracing strips tested do, and that it doesn't 'kill performance' (whatever is meant by that). You are repeating a factually incorrect opinion with absolutely no basis, since you haven't done any stress or acoustic measurements with / without. That's what you confirmed, so again, thank you for doing so.

To repeat from a different thread (for those who mercifully haven't read it) -you will get good results without: it's not necessary, but the optional (though recommended) bracing assumed simply improves structural rigidity and lowers distortion a little, without affecting the LF loading.

Hondasnl,

Have you measured that by adding the bracing the LF output is getting reduced? If not measured, the claim is your opinion only.

Understand that the bracing is not absolutely necessary, but it can increase the rigidity of the cabinet; so the builder can use the bracing, or if he/she does not feel that the extra rigidity is required, not use it.

And as for bracing and low frequency output, for that to stand as a fact, measurements will have to be made before coming to a conclusion.
