You are getting close noamgeller... looking forward to completion soon.
But don't rush with your masterpiece - it is said that good things come to those who wait. 🙂

Noamgeller, as a fellow German (sadly living in the hot desert of the US), i have one simple phrase that fits your build... einfach GEIL!
Those lines and angles just look amazing as a multi element design and even better in vener. I'm in the process of building my own version of Troels TL2.

I love the bamboo. Its just so ridiculously expensive in my neck of the woods. The face is going to be 1-3/4” bamboo, The rest of the case will be 1-1/2” MDF. The internal bracing will be 1” MDF, but I have not received that material yet.

profiguy,
Looking at noamgeller's build and the 18 inch bass driver, I don't know why, I remembered Rammstein's song "Links 2,3,4"...
Have fun guys building your giant speakers... after completion maybe you can say "Du klingst so gut" (wordplay on another Rammstein song name). 🙂

Are you currently living in Nevada? If so, that's a dream of mine... I'm following every year the ultramarathon in death valley, fascinating what people will go through!
Would be great to see some progress photos of yours. Feel free to post it here. It is starting to be more of a TL2 group build post, the more the better 👍
Zman01, absolutely. It also feels like the more time I give to it, there's more space for realizations... My profit, and the gentleman who receives the other pair profits from it as well. But don't rush with your masterpiece - it is said that good things come to those who wait. 🙂
And some more crazy line from today's progress: Rear panel that cover the crossover continues the lines of upper cabinet.
Well I'm in the Phoenix Arizona area. Not much diy speaker scene here to my knowledge - at least I haven't found any yet. It may have to do with the 45C+ temps we get here in the summer, but the winters are very nice.Vielen Dank Profiguy! I'm actually Swiss 😉

The cabinets you're building are beautiful. I'm still accumulating parts but my TL2 build will incorporate a mid horn with some of JBLs CMCD technology but with the B&C 8PE21 along with the spectacular 18 sound NSD1095N / XT1086 combo. I'm still trying other mids for this project as well. I haven't settled on the woofer yet since that is where I'm most picky... the bass has to be right and I'm trying to stay away from ported boxes... that will be a challenge to find a suitable woofer. I'm currently struggling with some health issues keeping me from spending much time with my build, so progress will be slow.
Keep up the fantastic work! Schönen Gruß aus der USA!
Ugly but ho so beautiful... now I understand -big is beautifulLooks a bit intimidating compared to the speakers next to them 🙂.
Nothing like a big set of speakers making full bandwidth music how it was meant to be heard. There is beauty in size and speakers are artwork in themselves. They serve purpose and have a place in the living environment. Ask my wife. She puts up with alot and understands I could be doing so many other things that arent as healthy or relaxing.
Profiguy, first of all, thank you for your comment above. 🙏Nothing like a big set of speakers making full bandwidth music how it was meant to be heard. One day I'll take the kids for a one month trip in the USA, There's so much to see! And hear you next TL1
As seen in the picture above, I have just connected the lower part of the TL2 to my existing pair of speakers... so wrong crossover... but... the sound is huge, huge beautiful sound stage 😍 and the music has such a great foundation...Yet, the 18inch BMS is almost not moving.
Really didn't expect that to work so well. Seems like there is really no substitute for big volume speaker. And no going back to small ones. Iam converted and Very Very impressed 👏
Maybe sometimes and maybe not. There's a school of thought that light stiff materials don't store as much energy...also maybe that XPS happens to be fairly stiff and internally damped. Perhaps an unsung hero material?I made a sealed cabinet...out of 1in thick XPS foam...I am not sure all the extra efforts in making the panels dead from vibration really make a huge difference in the sound.
My one experience with damping etc was very positive. I was visiting my best friend from college and her husband wanted to get better speakers than some old vintage ones he had-thin walls, 8" or 10" woofer I forget, cone tweeter. Since I was a loudspeaker engineer he asked me what to get. But he had no idea what he wanted to buy or how much to spend so I said "OK let me modify these for you meantime." I put in cross-bracing, coated the inside with automotive rubbery undercoat (that's what was available offhand) and stuffed them with fiberglass. I was shocked how much better they sounded. Some days later I talked to her and she said "we're re-listening to all our CDs!"
Shouldn't it be possible to use say REW and generate distortion curves, with the microphone at different positions around the enclosure, or something like that? Because hugely heavy speakers, one must consider structural problems, unless they are on a slab with no crawl space underneath.
My grandparents had a water company in Nevada, I was driving through Death Valley on the way one time. Passed a bicyclist, cycling uphill. Outside temperature still over 100F/38C. Calculated he must have been out through the afternoon. OW! I sometimes follow the Comrades ultramarathon, also crazy in a different way. I love to run but a half is the most I'll ever do someday, I don't like to expose my knees/hips to so much pounding.I'm following every year the ultramarathon in death valley,
People in diy or outside diy will go to such extremes... mankind and the search of the next higher peak. I've found it be excellent. Very transparent. I used several first watt designs in the past and he always let the other components do the talking. On a side note, how do you like your bel canto pre?
