Building process - The loudspeaker 1

I will have to do the magnet trick.

won’t that metal mesh grill cover interfere with the sound waves? How are you going to make one of those?

oh yeah, it’s not a cyclops ion the top; it is the eye of Sauron!

One speaker to find them, and in in the soundscape bind them.

Oh honey, I’m not going to be able to do anything today, my speakers will not allow me.

when you get in the soundscape of the speakers, everything around you outside of the soundscape will be fuzzy, like when Bilbo put on the ring. And you cannot escape

I am not sure which kit I am going to go with.

I am losing my mind.
I am still trying to decide what material I am going to use for these speakers.
I mentioned to my friend that built the TL-1s, that I am going to use 1 inch birch plywood for the cabinets and possibly glue two sheets for a total of 1 1/2 to 2 inches for the face.
He said he is using Baltic birch and it sounded like he inferred that birch plywood was not good to use.
I wasted a whole day yesterday calling places to see if I could find Baltic Birch. The only sheets I could find are half inch. Can you guess why it is so difficult to get?

I tried to find the black MDF/HDF, I was only able to find that in three-quarter inch sheets.

I was able to find something called Pluma-ply, which is a thin veneer of HDF with solid popular in between. The thickest I could find it is 1-1/4”. (The distributor is quite a drive from my house. But I could make it work)

I have been calling to get pricing for bamboo. I can get it in 1-1/2” sheets, but the places I have found do not want to sell half sheets.
I did my layout and I need Half a sheet for the face and 3 1/2 sheets for the cabinet and bracing.
The bamboo is a lot more expensive than the birch plywood.
I am planning to paint the speakers anyway, because I do not want to put it completely together with hidden fasteners. At the very least I will pin it together with pneumatic finish nails.

also, I am building the pantry cabinets under the stairs and I was going to conceal the fact I was buying extra plywood for these speakers, because I was buying the other plywood. The way it looks now I will have to buy material from three different places, which could potentially be an issue for me, ha ha

please give me your advice😳🤔🤪😢
Those emojis should some up how I am feeling

PS I also found 1-3/4 baltic birch butcher block countertop, that I could use for the face.
Maybe then, I could use the 1 inch birch plywood for the case and bracing??
Dude, if finding baltic birch is so hard, just scratch my comment on MDF… and pick some good quality 30mmm-40mm MDF somewhere. it is after all easier to work with, and cheaper. +
Focal builds all their high end cabinets with it

so….

Thank you for the advice. I do sincerely appreciate it.
Is the MDF going to be a better material than the 1 inch birch plywood?
What do you think of the idea of the 1.75” baltic birch, butcher block, for the face?
How would I know good quality MDF if I found it?
The cabinet I built, holding the voice of the theater speakers, is made of MDF.
What thickness MDF would you use for the cabinet?
What do you think I should do for the bracing?

In my books, MDF is not superior to plywood.
But, as long as the cabinet is well braced and you're using 30mm-40mm of it, you'll be fine.
In Germany there are some differences In the mdf quality. Higher density=better

Butcher block is not advisable. Raw wood is an unreliable son of a bit##@. It can spliter and crack... it's just not homogeneous enough for loudspeaker building. If you like the look though you can achieve it with veneer

Right on, man! That is something else, from design, to the work. Bravo!

Really like the window to the crossover and totally agree to showing off the expensive junk that normally just gets hid inside. I did it on one of my projects. All the components are mounted on mirror plexiglass and under bronze tinted glass.

Thank you so much for the cool comment! Appreciate it!

Still your best work, Eric! Those were great...

I have just bought Train Tickets to the craziest show of them all, the Munich High End Show.
It's time to calibrate and push expectations higher... and make fun of the ridiculous high prices.
Joke aside. I wonder what an impact could a TL2 make in such a show. I haven't seen any DIY in Munich but it could be an interesting offer
for the years to come.

So, who is coming?

When someone dares to pay 800.000€ for Vox Olympian (or any pair of loudspeakers ftm), that means that taxes aren't properly regulated in that country 🙂

Airplane Utva Sova in my country costs 300.000€ 🙂 The mofo thing flies, like a bird, in the sky (which humans can not by nature) for 40% of the price of those loudspeakers 😀

Imagine the price of development, permits and licences needed to make it legally airborne...
