...@jan.didden: Can you please confirm the actual size of the PCB? I get 22.2"x7.8" (564mm x 198mm) but am pretty sure this is waaayyy too big...

@Bertel
I'm obviously not Jan Didden but hope I can help since I have one board right in front of me and just took measures / photo's of it:
The PCB is precisely 49x140mm or approx. 2.0x5.5"

Robert, I'll send you a PM as well in case you miss this post, but I've had a reply back and pricing is very good for assembled boards. But it doesn't at the moment include the PTH components (XLR, relays, JST connectors and the Hypex regulators).

I need to clarify one point, and then see about a fully assembled board which they can do, but it will increase the price.

So we might have to decide which route to go down: cheaper price but with the difficult SMDs already mounted leaving simple PTH to solder, or a fully complete board which might be quite a lot more expensive.

XLR, relays, JST connectors and the Hypex regulators I think should be no problem for most here - after all it's a DIY site 🙂

This is a good option if it saves cost.

Still, how about a complete BOM delivery in order for us to get discounts?

I'll ask for a complete BOM but without the assembly for the PTH components - those would require manual / human soldering as they're not equipped to automate it which is why it would bump the price up a bit.

Or it's something one can buy in bulk from Mouser / RS / Farnell and benefit from the pricing. I can ask Hypex for a discount on pairs of HxR regulators - I already have an OEM account with them, but want to check with Robert first, it's his group buy 🙂 They would be the most expensive single item and not sure if I could pay for it all up front!

@ tfboy.

Hi did your supplier give a good price on the bare PCB's ?

Thanks.
Board spec is RoHS FR4 1Cu.Wt, dual layer, 1.6mm thick, Ni/Au ENIG finish, green mask, white silkscreen.

Based on a quantity of 100, they're £3.64+VAT each, £4.37 inc VAT. Price includes plots, tooling and test.

10 days lead time from order.

The company (Quick Circuits) is ISO9001 certified and are a very friendly and approachable bunch of people (well those I've met), so I'd be more than happy to work with them on this.

With Robert's green light, I'm happy to help out with this. I'd be getting them through my business which is VAT registered, but would obviously have to add the VAT to the end user, but if they are VAT registered, you can get the extra 20% back. I'd pick them up from the lab who are just around the corner so it's just probably another £1-2 or so to stick a board in a jiffy bag and post to the UK.

+ 1 about this. For me it's the SMD parts that pose a problem and cost most in time.

It would be my preferred option too. I just can't be bothered / too worried about trying to solder tiny resistors and SOIC packages. Plus I could then say I contributed to the assembly of the board 😀

I've had a quote back from them today, it's around £15 assembled which looks like an unbelievable deal 😱 but I would like clarification on a couple of points which should come over the next day or two, so please don't take that as a final cost for the board manufacture, procurement and assembly of the SMT components.

Make it tinned instead of ENIG. I'm not cheap, just don't like to mix many different metals to get galvanic effects. Also it solders better. ENIG is boutique stuff 🙂 save for things that shall last 30 years on a nordic sea oilrigg.
