In Action

Here's a picture of it on the screen. As you can see there is only 1 long horizontal pcb on the bottom, and it is very easy to move around. This lcd is hard to screw up. I got a question about the filters tho. there were 3 on the screen 1 kidna clear, another looked like a mag lense, and the last one was very white. Which ones should i use? i know the white one is reflecting most of my light. Im not sure what each does.

Wee!

Hum, after ~12 posts I think I'm still under moderation. :scratch1:

This post just made my evening (I'm currently working on a 5 page case study which is due at 7am) I was beginning to wonder about the Benq that I just bought and I totally forgot about this thread.

I just bought a Benq FP567s, it cost me US$270 which I thought was a tolerable amount, especially being in Canada where everything seems to be more expensive. Anyway, I drive 30 mins down the road to pick it up on Tuesday. 🙂

Does anyone know if it really IS 16ms 400:1 ratio? I was skeptical of the eBay description, but I knew that the 557s was used successfully so I went ahead and bought it. The news that it only has one PCB along the bottom has made me so happy, I can't put it into words..

:spin:

whoa didnt even see this thread before buying my monitor(FP557s....but i can confirm(cause i just got done opening a few mins ago).....This monitor is the best....

400:1 (although i look at the datasheets for the lcd online and some say 450:1)
1024 native
16.2million
16ms....

one pcb....easy to take apart...whats missing??....cant go wrong w/ this monitor. And yah...i did find those 3 plastic filters inside..no idea what its for...2 clear and one relfective. Anyone know?

hey jj,

I see you have the 557s.... I have been looking at this monitor for about a week right now because you just can't beat the price along with the 16ms response time and contrast ratio. I called benq and found that the 16 million colors is only when dithered but thats to be expected of LCDs in this price range.

I do have one request, could you go into a bit more detail regarding disassembly? Any cable lengthening? Problems?

Thanks!

Pete

psunder:

I'm not sure of course since I don't the hand-on experience of dismantling this monitor, but from the sounds of things it looks like this requires no cable lengthening or any crazy business whatsoever. Looks like this monitor was made for this. :smash:

I can't wait to take this sucker apart. Too bad I don't have a light source in my OHP

We're lucky to have found this 🙂 The one PCB is just awesome.

mhelin , VF

mhelin,
the panel i got from the 557s is a M150XN05.....its basically the same except it has 1/2 the brightness, and a little higher contrast ratio.

http://www.acmepoint.com/taiwan/customer-service/pdf/T15A5_spec.pdf

It's even rated to 50 deg C...around 122 F

VF:
here's a picture of the circuit boards:
The board connected to the LCD is circled in purple,
then that is connect to the controller(?) where I circled in red (it took me 1/2 an hour to figured out how to disconnect those small ribbons....u just flip the tab up lol), then the controller is hooked up to the main power board where I circled in blue. It's pretty simple, so Im not gonna list all the steps to rip it open. Feel free to ask if u have questions tho.

Im still not sure about the filters...the one in the front is a polarizer, the whitish one in the back is a reflector, but I have no clue what the one in the middle does, and if any of them are needed for the LCD to operate correctly+ safey without damage.

Evidence, thats just the picture I was looking for, Great Humm makes me wonder if we could call bennyQ and ask them for just the refurbished parts without the backlight etc and get em for even cheaper

Edit: do you have any screenshots yet? lol
