beginnings of my projector

i finally get to start my projector. i only need a couple more things.

i used to have a ps1 screen but i stepped on it. that really sucked. I ordered a new 5" car lcd.

the parts i am using are

toolbox from walmart 10$
wood from home depot 1.50$
glass around the house(its supposed to block heat but i cant tell the differance) free
2 page magnifiers from staples 16$
ohp lens(not a triplet just a single lens) free
ceramic medium base home depot 4$
lexan xl from home depot. 3$

i need to purchase a good light source. right now i am using a floodlight with my broken lcd.
i am going to purchase either a 250W metal halide kit or a 175w metal halide kit. I need your help on this decision.

if i get the 175 watt then i can use the one with a medium base and its really small. but 250w is a lot more light

the 250w ballast is 52 dollars and the 175w is 50 so i think ill just buy the 250w and just use the 175w bulb.

also i might buy a triplet lens. hopefully its better than the one i am using now

i will post pictures in the morning

You'll either have to buy the 175 watt setup, bulb and ballast. Or buy the 250watt setup, you can't run a 175 watt on a 250watt ballast. The 175 on my 7" seems to be pretty bright i think i would stick with the 175 for now, makes for less heat. But that's just a new guys opinion.😀

yeah i am going to buy a 250w kit today. i couldnt get the 175w to power. oh well.

i hope my lcd comes in today

also do you guuys think i need a ir filter . i am running 3 fans. with the 250w. and also i am using a toolbox do you think that it will melt from the bulb.

and one more question. where could i get a ir filter locally

alright so i bought my 250w metal halide bulb for 17.00 and going to buy the ballast tommorow. the bulb wasnt as big as i thought it would be.

i think i want to change my cause what do you guys think. this will be the new case.

the last picture could potentially be my light box its half of a computer case.

so i need your opinion. and where can i get a ir filter locally

which setup should i use

So i finally got my ballast. and i actually installed it right. im happy. it was actually 58 including tax. whats an extra 8 bucks right.

well i have the bulb in a power supply case but i lose a **** load of light. so that sucks. i put the white thing by the circle. and i found a ir filter from a slide projector and i put it in the circle from the case. i made the heat go down a whole lot.

all of my test were without fans or a uv filter.

so i really either need a new ir filter and then i will put a reflector in back of the bulb and just do that.

or make a custom case

so what should i do

its almost done

my projector is almost done and i might not need a ir filter. yes

here are some pics.
i really really need a reflector
i really really need a reflector
i really really need a reflector
i really really need a reflector

you need a uv filter tho

I plan also on some thing like yours - I gots lots of computer
scrap - and may use one - I got a bunch of tower computer
cases that are like a 12 inches wide and 24 inches high
huge for computer cases - I to wanted to use a tool
box - but I could not find one I liked

i really really need a reflector
you could try a mixing bowl - but you case looks
to small - maybe a coffee can - the smaller size
cut it down the center

I need UV glass - but at the hardware stores were I
live they give you a strange look - and ask whats UV
- LOL - That was at a Lowels hardware store

Good luck

Uv filer should be built into the light, check your manufaturers info. I run a 175watt and it already has a uv filter. If your goingt o go with a bowl type reflector try a soup ladle or icecream scop the chrome ones are the best ones as far as i've read.

hehe Part remote mounting the ballast aint going to make it any lighter, if you move your PJ you still going to have to pick up the ballast and move that too whether its in the PJ or not lol 😛 If ya can fit the ballast in your PJ do it, save you a second trip when moving it all to another room hehehe

yeah i guess that makes sense. lol

well here is a update. i think im going to purchase a new lcd for like 30 bucks. lol this is the third time.

if anyone can repair a ffc connection i will sell you a lcd.

and for my reflector i think im going to do it the same way as clinton
