John nor Gary have been heard from in a while. I tried to personally contact them when I was having problems with the 100/100. Never really heard back. Instead I created my own schematics by tracing everything out for this beast. It wasn't terribly difficult, and a few caps and transistors later, and it works/sounds like the day John put it together himself. Had to give myself a small pat on the back after that.

So far, no problems with the owner of the unit. Far as I know, almost a year later, it's still working perfectly.

@ UberRyan:
Thanks for you reaction.
You must have their masterpiece as I deduct.
Seeing all the hardware that goes in your 100/100 Meg I suppose this is nearly a true Class A amp having a rating of 100 Watts @ 8 Ohm.
I have and had different amps from Krell, Levinson Rowland and Threshold and i"m curious how far of are the Bedini designs from those manafacturers?
Any thoughst and/or experience?

Well schematics for these amps simply do not exist, so it's not easy to make a comparison to this amp with others as these are somewhat unique. These were all mostly made by hand, and their Tech Support crew was small, and now scattered, so finding any help repairing these things these days is almost impossible to come by. I seem to recall someone posting the schematics of a 10/10 or something along those lines further back in this thread.

If you're looking to trouble shoot one, I would purely use the schematics as reference, and trace out your own once you have a starting position to go by. I can dig around and see if I still have a copy of them. However, I found it easier to sit down with a reader and just draw out my own.

Bedini Parts

@ All,
If your looking for parts we have them as we were never out of business, just laying quiet for the past years. Waiting to see what the best sound is. If you want service or parts you may call 1-208-772-3303 between 1 and 4.30 Pacific Time. The phones will not be answered in the morning as were very busy. The parts inventory is very big so it may take some time to find what you want.

John Bedini!

Glad you have joined this group... there is a lot of information on here, and discussion. Other designers and manufacturers participate, some with their name and affiliations others without.

Hope you will stay around and comment, discuss and enjoy.

Please don't mind if there are skeptics, naysayers and doubters, some with strong technical thinking - it is all part of a very good mix. There is no flaming.

Looking forward to seeing more of your posts...

Btw, and fwiw, your 25/25 driven by a Spectral DMC-10 on Acoustat IIIs, way back in the day was one of the combinations that I think back to and recall as being wonderful to listen to. :D

what has John been doing

Bear, Avwerk,
I do not let any of that bother me. I have just been working in a strange field of energy. Sometime back in my early Amplifier days before John Iverson went missing by some strange means. I had long discussions with him unknown to most in this industry about the forces of magnetic fields. I never bothered to listen to his no parts speaker but my cousin did. I kept what I discovered very quiet and one day it got out. I do not do like the other amplifier designers here but I respect them all for what they have done here. People have asked for years now when are you going to make another amplifier, my answer is soon. I still have the Bedini amplifier company and all 186 thousand pounds of parts.

Some of the other questions I receive, why did you use a qusai circuit , the answer was simple, the way it sounds. My day in this field started at Acoustic Control where I met some of the greatest audio engineers of the day.

My boss was Maden Sharma who did the first High Powered Silicon Power Amplifier circuit, Mattes SSP/200 Amp . This is where Jack Strelioff also worked. I can remember this, when Maden would call you into his office and discussed a circuit with you, you have better known your Shi* because he would have walked you to the front door.

My main objective has always been what does it sound like and do people like the sound. That is what is important. The real question is, does it sound like music or not. John Iverson and Don Frick would come and see me at my shop as I did help him with some potting one time for the EK1.

John Iverson was the one that got me interested in the forces of magnetism and I did that on the side with different forms of energy. I did test some of that at the consumer electronics shows. The box was called the Force and I only had to run # 30 wires to the speakers, God where the wire people mad at me. John Iverson knew all about the crystal I was developing to do this with.

The one thing he did say to me was push forward and do not pay attention to what is said about you. Just keep going until you drop. He was drinking at the time so I do not know if he was kidding or not, I don't think he was. Another example of that was the Clarifier using a static modulated narrow beam magnet caused by the brush noise. This beam effects the noise floor in the disc or known as relaxation noise.

Just to read somebody's Patent means nothing as you must see the Patent rappers before the Patent office starts to force you change things to their liking. We had to have a university test it to get the patent. So the question now is,is John going to make any new Amplifiers, the answer is Yes coming soon. Just posting circuits for people to build I'm in favor of here, but you can not please everybody as they will change things. Someone can always find something wrong in what you do. Again it is a very upsetting story about John Iverson, but I can not say what I really think either. Don Frick sold my 45/45 Amplifiers and he has gone by by too. Strange indeed.

Bedini/Strelioff, that was developed while Jack and I were working at Acoustic Control. We were told to build at the time a 300 watt RCA Amplifier to compare with the Model 400 Acoustic bass amp. I experimented at home connecting a dual differential to the output of the amp. What you got was the Bedini / Strelioff model 200 200. we just took it to a local dealer and left it. The next day Jack and I got a call asking how many could you make. The deal was it drove the Infinity QSL with ease to ear busting level. I still have 10 of these amps at the shop.

That amp was a nightmare to make as Jack crammed everything into a very small space. It used the RCA1B05 transistors, you cant get them now so the MJ15024 was the next best choice. we built 45 of them by hand before we could get metal work done outside. The store would run a Kensound Pre-amp with them in a package deal, it was tubes. I would watch some people catch the speakers on fire with the amp but it would keep running.

Very few times would that Amp fail unless you would keep running a direct short, and then it would just blow it's rail fuses. After all Jack and I made 2 ohm bass amps at Acoustic Control. If the amp could not drive 2 ohms it was no good. I have seen people try to fix Acoustic amps thinking they were using 2N3055 transistors but they were not as one of the engineers chose a device with a built in emitter resistance, I think that was the 360. But all as I can say is hope I can answer some of your questions here. Sorry to bring up Iverson but he did start it. I know Bear you have a Bedini / Strelioff so I'm here but it's been almost 38 years I'm going on with audio. Bear your best bet is to take the connectors out and hard wire the amp so you can make a star ground, they break connection sometimes.

WOW Hello John Bedini! WELCOME! it is quite an honor to have you here! years a go I had a BA-803 and i sincerely regret selling it to this day! I had no idea you were involved with acoustic control bass amps as well! no wonder why so many people loved those things!

Thank you for being here John! I can't wait to see the new stuff! and I REALLY can't wait to hear it!

That is a good name

Zero Cool,
That is a good name.

I have some 803's that need to be put back together I also have hundreds of drive boards new in a box add any power supply you want. The diagram for the 25/25 has been posted here just a bias change for the 803. My new amps are quite different as I'm still working on them at this time. Some of the Amps are known as the Q series they were sold in Europe and used some of the B.A.S.E. technology.
Thanks for the Welcome.

John B,

I personally do not own that Strellioff amp - you must have either read into my brain or seen the photo on my website (I think it is there...) of the soft start I wedged into one? No, I merely repaired one for a client some years ago... tracing the circuit from the PCB was fun... not really.

Your other work is very interesting to me - there are two patents by one fellow that I ran across that are both fascinating and dumbfounding, they use rotational motion to create heating and cooling. No parts touch. Air is not involved. Not exactly magnetics though.

Magnetism, imo, is not fully explained or understood. The claim is that since "no work" is being done there is no energy expended. Sure.

Anyhow that is not audio. Very OT for here.

But I am sure that many would be interested in that, and anything audio that you have done or are doing that you can show pictures of, diagrams, or discuss. There is no requirement that you publish schematics.

FYI, what Nelson Pass does is to make commercial finished products that are let us say "more sophisticated" without disclosing all the details, and separately publishes a number of interesting schematics with complete circuit details here for people to "have at." This has worked out nicely.

Others will have to decide which of the two Pass "lines" actually sound better!
Of course the latter ones can only be had via a DIY build. :D
Take a look at the Pass Forum here...

Perhaps you might want to explain what "B.A.S.E." is and how it works? I am not familiar with that.

I think that you will find that there are people who will "find fault" with almost anything that is posted here, usually on some rational basis. As I said before, I would not be concerned for a second. As far as people "changing things" - sure at their own risk, why not? It is pretty clear that if you do not follow the original recipe you do not get the original result!

The impetus for this site is DIY - and there are many who are extremely skilled in electronics, engineering and design. But usually the discussions revolve around two things: how does it or a part of the circuit really work, and parts substitutions.

Take a look at the discussion of the Krill amplifier (simple search will fiind) and you will see a good example of a commercial and very interesting design with the original designer participating. The main question revolved around the question of if the output stage is switching off or not. Many folks built the amp in this case with the assistance of the designer. A good read! :D

PS. you should feel free, and maybe that is the best thing, to participate in other threads on other topics. I am sure people would like to hear your stories and your opinions. John Curl has a very long interesting thread here, look at that if you have not already done so?

Hello John Bedini,

Great to see you here FWIW. I ' m a past owner also , going way back :) funny you should mention Iverson , for many years I had wanted an Eagle 7 finally got my hands on one a few years ago and less just say its legendary...:p

Anyway glad to see you are still involved ......

I,m with Zero cool!
It would be nice to have something of yours to build. You need to look at it as there are those that would rather have the factory built example and willing to pay for it
And the other side that will never and I mean never buy anything IF they can build it for personal satifaction..
In either case you win from both sides that never meet.

I still have the 150 mk2 that you upgraded with dual trannies and also had the 6677 dual mono pre with the 100/100 at one time but had sold for whatever reason way back then
I much enjoyed your ramblings from the past!
I wish more manufacturers would talk about the good old days of audio since time waits for no man..

Regards

BASE

Bear,
Yes I agree, The work was very Interesting to say the least in electromagnetics. But this is Audio and not magnets and coils. B.A.S.E., this had to do with Psychoacoustics and the way you here. This is why my comment on what everybody considers the best amplifiers.

In my way of thinking about it, I could change any of them to sound just what I want it to sound like. I was doing that today with my employees. Part of the study is the room that the system is placed in. During the BASE days all the Country And Western Music used that system as it did not need a decoder for play back. We still have two FM stations using them here. It's funny to listen to the Doors and here them as if you were sitting front row. I had to turn down the processing on the FM stations as you can not have people look behind them while driving, the MPX can be problems too. XM radio no problem.

A good example of that is the Hunt For Red October as the captain turns around and speaks at you, that was in BASE, Star Trek, Halloween 5, and so on.
BASE, basically it is a Psychoacoustics processor and can work both ways Spacial Sound or Binaural without headphones. So I could put any amplifiers in a room and make it sound like anything I want, proven technology.

I did run the system at a CES show. most people just sat and tried to figure who was whispering in there ear, it was funny to watch. Part of the system is a MonoBlock converter for older recordings. Yes in all realityit's all about what the amplifier can do with phase relationships as the signal passes from stage to stage to the final output. My comment was what does it sound like, what is the real way music sounds, is it fat, is it thin does it have depth does have timber, is it dry and so on. This is all controled by Delta I and Delta T, the processor can block off your ears at differnt times causing you to think somthing is comming at you from behind. So if the Techonolgy is understood it is easy to watch what each stage in the ampilifier is doing with phase. Some people must use three speaker systems to do this, that is not the way to do it. Look at Patent # 5,748,745 and see if you want to make one.
@ a.wayne and Zero Cool. I'm putting a list together which I will PM you both as soon as I have a count of parts.

To Mr Bedini,

Greetings to you and I hope this finds you well, I love your work. I am a studio owner specialising in binaural and 3D sound. I am DESPERATE to track down a Bedini B.A.S.E but they are impossible to find here in the UK. Any chance you may have one lurking in a dusty cupboard? Happy to discuss privately if that is the case.

I also saw you were working on a software version of the hardware. Is it available?

best wishes

Base unit

Henryolonga,
I have found two and many pro-types at the shop. I will PM you when I check them out. To answer your question about the digital unit I did make a dill for cool edit and others. The problem was you could not protect your work so I did not give them out.

UberRyan, well done! Can you pm or send me your traced schematics? I too have this amp blown up...
I need 'em!

cheers,
Paul.
