hope I'm not the one to blame 🙂
I second that
really , DMM is only thing you can trust to
IAIMH , care to say something about listening impressions , after few more days accumulated?
Definitely not, ZM - your instructions are quite clear. It is my brain that is faulty 😉
Listening impressions - OK - first - Everyone has different gear, ears, and brains. Generally, I find that my impressions differ from many in the audio reviewing community. I also don't have a tremendous amount of experience with a lot of gear, and without comparisons... how can I be relevant? What I'd offer is if anyone that would like to hear it in my rig... please come. It's worth it. I'll have beer or tea. 🙂
For me - when I compare the Aleph J to the SissySIT, the Aleph J is the smoooooooooth friend that never gets anyone's knickers in a twist. Invite her to any party! She gets along with everyone. She may tell a few little white lies to keep the peace and compliment my taste in Bon Jovi.
The SissySIT is the pragmatist. She's not one to call out small faults and punish you, but errors in recordings are much more prevalent. Her sense of pace is SWIFT. The space between notes can be uncanny. Music comes from nowhere and the precise placement of singers and instruments is extremely cool. In the First Watt Family - it's the closest I've come to the DG300Bs and... the SissySIT has better control of the bass.
So... I can't write a review that would mean much to most people, but... I can say that I'm thrilled to have built it, and it gets a LOT of play time. I have yet to do any serious note taking or do blind A/Bs. So... again... all opinions are just those... opinions... in my room... my music... my gear.... my addled brain. 😉
As always... thanks to Nelson, Zen Mod, and this community for helping me learn a bit more about amplification and making me a very happy camper. 😀
good enough 🙂
regarding comments generally ....... info about amount of joy , and few words on top , that's all I need ; considering context where no one is selling a story or myth ,that's certainly more than adequate
ok, to be frank , I'm the one who is selling something here , but I like to imagine that you're still getting more than you paid for .......

btw. my Sissy is cooked today , ready to take a spot between speakers
that means - T-Bed (Babelfish J2) going back to bench , after two days of glorious sing , to mess with some values and invoke some 2nd for Semisouth worshipers

Definitely a tremendous value. I build the amps to learn and listen. I learned a bit about the topology of the amp and what makes SITs unique to other FETs. The build process and doing my first dual mono set up was challenging, but a ton of fun. I still work on properly reading the schematics and tracing the boards.
Listening brings me great joy. I am not a person that can pick a part a system and tell if it has luscious mids or detailed highs. I just know if I smile, tap my toes and sing along. The SissySIT makes me very happy.
Learning to "tune" the harmonics in the distortion is always fascinating. I hope to get some proper measurement gear soon and learn a bit from the masters at Burning Amp.

This is a very good and honest review. Simple to understand, I like it!Definitely not, ZM - your instructions are quite clear. It is my brain that is faulty 😉

I forgot to say - Babelfish J2 , being of pretty much same breed (parts wise) as Aleph J, but even easier - is no more that ultrapolite thingie
surprise effect is elevated , pretty much
though , kill me , M2 is still closest to my heart

Having built both M2 (with Toshiba laterals) and SissySIT, I feel that SissySIT is M2 squared ... 😀

well , I wasn't speaking about sound

remember that DEFiSIT is practically M2 with heavy twist ......
then SissySIT is nothing more than DEFiSIT with heavy twist
conclusion - all amplifiers are the same

I too have a heavy bias towards to M2. But I like them all (at least the ones I have built = SissySIT, M2X and Aleph mini), have the F4, F3 and F5T in that order to build.... Unless the mighty ZM happens to distract my course with some twisted flavour that is irresistible

choose according to your speakers/room/SPL demands ....... not by anything else
I personally don't need more than gutsy 5W , hey - that's just me 🙂
so , I have F4 simply because Papa couldn't look at me more ampless
I have DEFiSIT simply because I was shameless (again - hey - that's just me)
now I have SissySIT simply because I need to have Demo piece , and I need to make Babelfish M25 from same reason ...... then I need to make Babelfish J2 from same reason ...... then , after I really did Iron Pumpkin SE from same reason , now I need to make Iron Pumpkin (Bal) from same reason .....
going to bankruptcy , no doubt

Ha, then I would never have built anything as I had a perfectly suitable Linn Klout driving my Maggies. Like ItsAllInMyHead commented, it is the learning and fun of exploration. I at one time had more than a dozen high powered headphone amplifiers (young kids forced my hobby to go personal) but my youngest is 16 and likes loud music, so I am set free to explore real power amplifiers again.
In all honesty, this is therapy for me. My day job carries a lot of responsibility and building amps / anything is the best thing for my sanity. This is probably best suited for the pub forum but we are all friends here.

A clamp meter every Greedy Boy can and need to have
just want to give you a tip or two
had idea to ease some things , so did some searching for DC A clamp meter , with low enough range for my needs........ and found Uni T UT210e
already ordered (around 44E in my neck of wood) , even less abroad!
while I was at Vendor site , I ordered also UT890D; that will be third I have - and it is absolute bargain (25E in my neck of wood)!!
so , no more connecting mini clips to R in CRC , or inserting 0R1 in rail , if there is no CRC
finish biasing of your amp with clamp on rail, close it , move clamp to mains cord and write down what's current draw , check on same place whenever you want if you have doubt , in 2 secs
I'm so happy when I get new toytool 🙂

I understand... I have the F4 and F5 boards ready to go into a chassis, but I can't bring myself to remove the other amps yet. If I get another chassis... I may be bankrupt... and divorced

Congratulations! Thanks for showing. I am intrigued by the clamp!
Last night I saw Rosanne Cash in concert. It was at the Chan Centre, a 1200 seat venue with great acoustics, here in Vancouver. I was in the third row, up close, and Rosanne Cash and her band gave a fantastic performance. She did songs mainly from her three latest albums, but did include a couple of early hits such a Seven Year Ache. Another great song was one that she has not recorded but apparently one that she often does in concert - Ode to Billie Joe. All in all, it was a most enjoyable evening.
Afterwards at home, I fired up my system with the SissySit powering the speakers. I played some Rosanne Cash music and guess what - Rosanne Cash wasn't live in my living room but it was very close. The reproduction of her voice was spot on, and the overall sound was very close to what I had heard live.
Is it live or is it SissySit? Remember the old Memorex commercial?
So I would be quite happy if the SissySit was the last amplifier that I built.
Of course, the other components of my system also contributed to the sound and credit should also go to their designers - digital (IanCanada FIFO and IsolatorPi and RyanJ Distinction D3 TDA1541A Dac) and preamp (Michael R Luminaria), but there is no doubt that Zen Mod's SissySit is an important contributor.
However, I am a diyer so there will be more builds. 😀

Pulled my board as replaced the non-functional trimpot. Now my mosfet screw hole appears to be stripped. Can no longer get the screw to catch in the hole, so I can't remount the board.
Anyone have a tip on resurrecting the tap?
Such a battle.

Can you drill it out and through bolt it?
