I can attest to that. It sounded fantastic stock.I can report that the kit version sounds pretty marvelous as is 🙂
still, contemplating upgrades. But worth noting 🙂
I had the 24 volt PSU board and most of the parts so that is the only reason that I upgraded that. Regarding the 10uf caps, if you stick with that value, they are pretty common in other projects. The ba3 for instance. So if it doesn't live up to your expectations, you can still find the use for them. Also I believe the 24 volt it's good for the ACA pre as well. Just a reason to do more projects...
“Upgrade” the (very good included parts) all you want, but understand that the sonics of the NuTube itself are the 600lb gorilla in the circuit and changing passives is equivalent to shoveling against the tide.
🙂
🙂
I do. But, no need to rush, the B1 has got me enchanted for now. I’ll keep on hearing sugar till ear diabetes kicks in. Meanwhile collecting Pumpkin parts 🙂who cares about that ...........![]()
I have a couple of ubib shunt reg positive kits, intended for B1K and ACP+/Raspberry Pi duties. But unsure of the possible gains with these two circuits. Feedback has been variable wrt discernable differences vs cost and time.I can attest to that. It sounded fantastic stock.

at this point, it is allready so good even my wife is astonished (Modded RPi as roon bridge, into Bryston BDA-1, into B1K, into Aleph J Zen, into Alpair 12Ps in Super Pencils (still burning in). Can really move some feelings.
your feedback on Gaz’s PSU with this circuit will be mappreciated.
what trannies do you use?
Regards,
Andy
This one.
TE 2261-ND x1 TR1 Amgis L 01 -6365 25VA/22v Transformer
From what I understand, the gains aren't much going with a different power supply. I will definitely share my findings as to what I think I hear is different. My wife wanted me to build a wood to chassis to match the rest that she's not really into the whole aluminum enclosure thing. The unloaded voltage of the transformer's secondaries is somewhere around 27.5 Vac. It hardly comes off of that with the Korg hooked up
Yes you enjoy what you have but you also enjoy trying to make things better and experimenting. I'm glad that you're wife enjoys your setup.
The nice thing about the gaz power supply is you can change the voltage regulator to get different output voltages. Quite flexible that way so it'll be usable on a different project if needed. I used a little screw terminals so I could pull it out into swap it into something different which will likely happen.
The bipolar version has a turnpot to adjust the voltage which is pretty neat.

So I have the power supply and the film caps installed. I ordered another board and tube to populate and put into the original DIYaudio B1 Korg chassis. I can eventually compare to this upgraded (hopefully) preamp. It could just be the Celtic Woman group that I am listening to talking but it sounds brilliant! What a great design! It definitely seems to have a little bit of kick in the bass that I don't remember being there before. Soon I will be able to be sure of that.
Major brain hemorrhage here, hit a snag with my build and thought I should be smarter a second time so to card nr2 and actually followed the instructions and built up the PSU filter part to conduct a test and see if this A-B approach would help with my fault tracing in the original build.
Read, followed and failed, read again twice, measured and failed, checked every component measured and failed,
Get 24v T1-T4, but the fist capacitior and the resistor take a huge hit, with all caps in place the voltage start to drop after 10 sek and become heat, if I skip cap 1 the voltage stays steady but the heat problem follows down stream.
It is so sever that it smells and the cap start to bulge, I only have 0.9 volt over the diod.
Please help me before i run out of mood stabilizers 🙂

I see you put them properly polarized on pcb, but - what about PSU polarity?
you didn't twisted wires ?
cap voltage?

cap voltage?
Caps. are 35V and 24V is the measured voltage and what the PSU give.
Polarity should be correct to the eye and the multimeter.
All cables are twisted by nature, but I can't very well have made two many misstakes with only 2 cables, but let me change and see when the protection circuit stops that attempt.
Don't know if I should send a massive thanks or a pic of me in my dunce cap 🙂

Note for the future, the guy that invited the barrel jacks should be struck from the Christmas list forever.
When instruments could be fools by a $1 peace of metal junk and steal 5 hours of my life.
Will update with the sad remains of the build and my shiny hat tomorrow, thanks for the lifeline.

Ok, so what happened?Note for the future, the guy that invited the barrel jacks should be struck from the Christmas list forever.

Here is the real build that acted up but actually had a nice glow, hence the second atempt."......barrel jacks......." Sounds like wrong polarity.
