Hi Col,
I've been using the Dayton's WG with Eminence APT above 3kHz. I managed to make the throat as smooth as I can (by filing/sanding the adaptor to suit the slightly larger throat).
The result is quite good and definitely much more worthy than the money. The combo provide a nice smooth response and open sound. By ears, I feel it very even and stable on/off axis. (I don't have precisice measurement, though.)
Have fun.
I'm thinking of upgrading the driver. Please update your result with DE10 in the future.

col said:I think a lot can be done with the transition of the compression driver and the waveguide. The WG and adapter has a thread coupling that adds 1" of tube inbetween the compression driver and where the conical shape of the waveguide begins.
I'm contemplating cutting off the threaded portion of both the waveguide and the adapter then working out a way of using some kind of epoxy resin to glue a piece of MDF onto the waveguide and then mounting/screwing the Selenium adapter (without the threaded bit) onto the MDF. This would bring the compression driver right up close to where the conical shape begins.
yes, that is the right thing to do imo. i plan to do the same.
Re: Hi Brett!
Just ran the 10HPL64 thru Unibox: it's a midbass driver with an Fs of 61Hz, so you won't get any bass out of it.
Do not use generic crossovers; they won't work. You'll need to design one for the set of drivers you use.
You don't need Japanese to interpret the drawings.zeonrider said:All about horns is OK, I, like it woodcrafting bu Japanese!!
What about dimension for 10"?
I, am not close with Unibox or WinISD.
Sorry!
For crossover I'll use these on Att.

B&C DE10 Dayton HR10RW Selenium ADM25-25 with no modification
Just thought i would do a quick and dirty measurement to see what the combo looks like with no mods. Crossover is at 2.5k 24db linkwitz riley. There is no baffle, WG suspended in free air. Measured with the behringer DEQ2496 pink noise generator and the ECM8000 measurement mic 1m away.

there is 3 photos to compare just click next.

Looks like to need to equalise the Ti above 10K to get it flat.
I have a Selenium D220Ti with JBL horn, I equalise it via DCX2496 above 10K to get reasonably flat. With DCX I can also compensate the dip you are getting.

yeah, I guess i could EQ it flat using the DEQ2496. I want to get it flatter with modding first though. The step around 6.5k is probably the lack of a baffle.

I guess not.
Have you modified the adaptor/throat? I think the dip is probably the early reflection by the countour step on the adaptor and throat.
With Eminence APT, I don't have that 6.5k dip with both 8" and 12" ones after I modded the adaptor/throat. And, APT seems extend higher.
The PExpress circular horn(I have 10" horn) I found to be not very good, if you don't mind rectangular horn with 90 by 50 deg directivity is much better, I bought a pair of JBL (yes JBL)econowaveguide for less than $50. They sound much better than PE horn..
BTW you cannot get them(JBL) in Melb.

Hi Brett,
Remember a few weeks there was a discussion here at Gedlee waveguide thread on Econowaveguide, I contacted Zilch at AudioKarma, the waveguide is cheap and it performs way above its price. Zilch bought them for me.
Normally Brett you are after top quality waveguide this is not for you. You may wnat to buy wooden rect. guide eg the one sold by PI speakers, not cheap, $700 each.
Overall I found it to perform very well but not excellent, $9.99 or $19.99 each not sure. I use it with JBL 15" woofer in a two way config., giving me 100dB yes 100db SPL. I am happy with is combo, both are mounted in JBL cabinet. Sounds good.
cheers....
Hi Ttan98,
I'm glad that you found the JBL ones work better with the selenium D220Ti driver you are using. I think I will stick with the 10" dayton as I am using the B&C DE10 which is a completely different kettle of fish to the selenium D220Ti and I already have it flat within 2db just with a slight smear of water based putty:

I don't think you can just say the JBL is better without knowing what it would be like on the driver I am using. I have used JBL waveguides before they are very good. My last system used the PT waveguides but with JBL drivers, well sort of.

CLS thank you for your pictures they have already put me on the right track 🙂

At the moment I have a Elliot Sound Projects P09 24db electronic crossover set at 2.5khz I soldered it up using matched capacitors so I know it is very accurate. I will probably move the crossover back a tad to 2khz or even 1800hz. Funny thing, when I first connected up the DE10 I accidentally connected it to the wrong side of the crossover. I measured it anyhow it still worked down to 1khz.

Yesterday the wood arrived for my speakers. I had this done at a place called Allboard Distributors. www.allboard.com.au
Basically, I downloaded their order forms filled them in drew a diagram of how I wanted the front baffle to be and faxed it to them. Within an hour they phoned me back. After a bit of a chat (turns out one of their guys in the workshop used to work for Jensen speakers). They gave me a quote for $190.
Below is what I received a week later.

I consider this to be excellent craftsmanship and very good value for money. When it comes to trades people it is hard to beat this country 😀
Looks like I won't be doing too much sanding 😀
