Yay. Hasn't hit Sydney yet, but I did hear that decent rain was forecast for this week.
Also guys if you want this thread to continue, then keep away from politics. A mod will be along with a big stick if you don't 😉

Roger! 🙂
Perhaps anyone here in their right mind can explain me how in the actual situation of Australia, a tennis match can be played, with serious risk to players and assistants, and seeing that the tickets sale is very low. I saw a woman abandoned the match because she can't respire. But authorities don't see the same reality, don't live same reality? I understand that business are business, but at the cost of the health? I thought that this stupidities happen only in my town.
When the leaves of the trees fall and rot, they return the nutrients and release CO² to the air again, except for a minimum accumulated in their arms. In the task, microorganisms consume oxygen too. This is not usually said in the classrooms.
It is about the wood tree trunks are made of and the carbon is stored, not the leaves.
Aha, and the leaves are made of what?It is about the wood tree trunks are made of and the carbon is stored, not the leaves.
Every live thing is made of carbon, my dear.
Carbon, nitrogen, oxygen and hydrogen are present in almost all live organisms.

Yes, never question and comment the politics.... Be a good zombie

Who cares?
Leaves don't store anything over time as they have a limited lifespan.
Trunks are where carbon is stored for many decades.
Nobody ever suggested to use grass as carbon storage either because it is pointless, just like suggesting leaves for that purpose.

What was coal made of ages ago?
AS long as we don't burn it it doesn't matter one tiny bit.
Unfortunately we do which is why we are in poop we are in.
Was there any point to that post?

I see pathetic that many think that the problem is solved by each contributing our own grain of sand.
The problem is the rulers, especially the most industrialized countries, so it is political, whether they like it or not. The UN is old, recently we had an example of how its regulations pass through the ***.
And we are warned that we cannot talk about these things because we are walking on very thin ice. That metaphor is perfect!
It is thin by global warming !
+1 but :
It's not about thinking each of us can fix the problem alone, it's about to say all should contribute at his own size. It's not contradicting rulers should do more. They must because their size permitt it. But all have to give his contribution. More sand = a pyramid. You can not ask to enter into and in the same time stay on your chair with a Cok... and climbing in the pyramid when fire is downstairs is usefull.

I'm posting as a normal member because I am participating here in this thread, but do please read the rules bogdan. There is a very good reason for the rule on not posting on political matters. Just have a look at places like facebook and the extreme reactions people have in those types of conversations. In real life too it is a topic that really stirs the emotions, often resulting in very ugly conversations.
Your fire fighter emoji is very apt. The flame wars that result from political discussions are very hard to extinguish.

I guess that is more up to the players and the organizers, I don't believe there are any laws that would allow authorities to step in and stop it. I was thinking the same, but I think it is just one of those things, and part of the challenge of tennis in Melbourne in the summer (and what makes the Australian Open a tough competition). Normally they are not dealing with the smoke, but the temps are often in the 40's.

You can rest assured that I collaborate with many grains of sand daily.
But the point is that it does not reach ..... and if we want to discuss what would be an immediate, logical, reasonable and beneficial measure for the planet and all who live on it, we enter the swampy terrain of this thread. You can read it clearly in the recent post of wintermute. He complies with the forum rules as a moderator, I understand this.
But I wish there were not those rules to be able to comment without self-censorship!

At the end of the day movement towards renewables and a greener planet
will also be largely a private initiative. Governments are intrinsically involved
but also often technologically out of touch, slow to respond and generally
have short term planning objectives anyway - so there is plenty to discuss
without them.
I would say one of the single biggest catalysts towards a greener planet has
been Elon Musk. Tesla has literally forced the hand of all other auto
manufacturers. They all laughed at him, short sellers on Wall Street jibed
him.... checked Tesla's stock price lately or sales of model 3? The short
sellers have lost millions if not billions, the other manufacturers are
scrambling to catch up and release plug ins but they are all behind the eight
ball to some degree.
As David Wallace-Wells correctly pointed out (see previous links) there are
actually massive opportunities in renewable energy and 'greening' the planet
but if we wait too much longer and go into 'survival mode' it will cost us ]
Trillions. Maybe we have already passed that point, it's hard to say, all
scientific evidence is pointing toward the global warming effect as actually
accelerating past previous modelling.

These two links refer exactly to what I want to say that individual contributions are a small thing next to what governments would have to do .... Thanks for the input, it is much appreciated and we have faith that sanity and meaning common will prevail over stupidity and greed....🙂
