If I was building that schematic without the intention of strict cloning, I would have experimented to convert the SRPP in to a Mu follower and would have checked E182CC,ECC99,6H30Π vs 5687.
Hi Thomas,
If you have not read this here are some good thoughts on SET design

1. two triode systems on input (SRPP) are within one 6072 envelope
2.first half of 5687
3. second half of 5687 is cathode follower for mighty 211,which is output (end tube)
thank you.
====================
there seems to be 2 pot at the input. the 1st value seems to be 100K. but I can't make out the value on the other. do you know the value?
also there seems to be a resistor connected to the top pot and the value is unrecognizable. can you tell me what it is?
thanks again

what is the purpose of the top 100k pot?

balance;
what else?

I'm confused with the answer.
I guess I should've been clear: what are use of the 2 pots in the input? both balance?

lower one is volume
upper one is balance

dumb question: what does balance do? make the left/right channel the same loudness?
Once upon a time amps had facilities. You could drive your left and right speaker in different volume or tamper with bass and treble. All was ousted for the shake of purism and some never lived to see them again. Fun and vinyl are now legends from the past.
hi,
take a look of all capacitors. use them to test with the clone Ongaku is it right????
But I will do for it!!
thx

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

dumb and naive question

will you share how you made these output xformers?
hi Zen,
don't laugh me. But your comment was really a good comment for me.
My winding will base on this method but will little different. Since Ongaku was a high or said very high impendance OPT.
For this Single-Ended OPT. I will seperate two chambers in one bobbins & multiple interleaved winding sections to maximize coupling & lower inter-winding capacitance. Probably will use over 14 interleaved primary / secondary sections for this OPT Than the HF response will good.
thx

thank you very much;
now-if you want to be very nice-please just translate these lines from top to bottom ,and say number of turns, along with wire diameters .............

I have 4 vt4c along with 4 10Y along with many other input tubes waiting..........but I have zero time 😉

hi zen,
U always welcome to me!!!!!!!!!!
from top to bottom.
top.
1.S means secondary winding.
2.P means primary winding.
3. means Basic structure.
4. test data of different winding structure for left side & right side.
No of turn will approx 3000T for pri.
Henry will approx 45H
DCR will within 260~280Ohm.
Leakage will below 1%
thx

now just to find some nice cores and..........to find time 😉
anyway-I'm not in a hurry .........making things like this is joy for life

hi Zen,
But I............................ hurry hurry up toooooooooo!!!!
The core I will choose Nickel-Boron- Iron Base nano-amorpholus core & 'M0' grade 0.05mm Ultra Hi-B. Looks standard Z11 or standard japan audio grade 0.23 will not enough for very good Band width!!!!
thx
thomas

hi,
pls take a look of the nano amorphous OPT,
10K sold to Oversea diyers feedback. One was UK audionote user.
thx
thomas
Every prople will know that 10K SE OPT was not easy to have Good Band-width.
Pls see the feedback of one of the recent user. For Telefunken RS237.
pls click for detail.
http://www.vt4c.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=963&start=60
It need 100 hours to run in.
This is feeback from UK audionoxx use which change to my OPT & feedback.
Hi Thomas please quote price for mc transformers and el84 output transformers.
The 845 transformers today have now started to improve in detail and focus again quite drastically changing overnight. When will it stop improving???/

hi dr luke,
many thanks & I was happy to hear U like the OPT, is it fit your taste??
I can do the EL84 PP OPT to U with secondary silver wire OPT stage.
I was testing the IV & pre-amp OPT of the dac, will funis soon.
take a look of the 5N monosrystalline wire.
7N wire for MC step up & 5N silver wire.

Dear Thomas
the transformers sounded awful for the first three days but suddenly this morning they have sprung into beautiful life. I think amongst many other characteristics the one that hits me most is how the sound is so totally free from the speakers and floats in space, which I have not experienced before. Inner detail stills needs to improve to bring it right up to first class standard but it has been only 70 hours so far.
Could you possibly make the Audio Note OTO el84 output transformers with silver output wiring. Please quote price.
Also output transformers for the audionote DAC 2.1 balanced with silver output wires.
Plus have you completed your Moving coil transformer yet.
Please let me know.
best wishes Luke

I am also testing a pair of the 10K output from Thomas. On test bench, these output are magnificent. Almost no phase distortion, boy, they are fast! Also the frequency response is linear all the way to above 20Khz.
Yet these transformers take quite sometime to run in. Had the first 5 hours on and violin sound is not acceptable yet. Will report later when I give it another 30-40 hours with it.
