I usually avoid (endless) threads like these about cables and wires. 😒
But yes, cables can definitely be "directional"!
In fact, the speaker cables I use, 16g lamp cord are directional!
From the back of my amp the go straight down to the floor, then left and right along the wall to each speaker, and then back up the rear of the speakers to their binding posts.
😀

Ed,
You and I have a good understanding of each other. I wonder how the younguns view us..doing the smackdown, dissin each other, on rare occasion actually talking "stuff" like NEC.
Hopefully, they learn that this is how it is supposed to be..
John
PS..not sure how that Youngwood PO will work out...If it does, I will certainly visit you... If only to diss you in person..and pretend that I am not impressed with your half acre of shop floor...

I wonder how many copper wire extrusion factories were built in the wrong direction? Think I'll stick to ones built East - West.
All my mains and XLR cables are directional with a very noticeable effect if I get them the wrong way around, sod having to twist over the ends to get them to line up with the pins on the connectors...
True XLR has no directionality; Cable shield is grounded at both ends. All my mains and XLR cables are directional with a very noticeable effect if I get them the wrong way around, sod having to twist over the ends to get them to line up with the pins on the connectors...
I'm confused as XLR cables have gender.
You just have to push them in MUCH harder. 😉
There can be misunderstanding about XLR gender.I'm confused as XLR cables have gender.
What matters is the pins and holes ( not the plug's body ).
Now days one can have trouble teaching this.
The only good connectors are GR874's and GR900's. Anything else below 1 GHz is a compromise!! Except maybe the IBM Twinax for balanced connections: https://www.americanradiosupply.com...qpl5nqgg01LzcLzvj1eE2qdpjvXQzcp8aAhGIEALw_wcB
Not a darn thing. Steam is perfect!!!You folks with your newfangled ideas! What's wrong with steam?

I tend to use cis-XLR cables for greater realism...I'm confused as XLR cables have gender.
Rhis reminds me of a quote from a very questionable movie, Robocop…It is only natural that stupid people should be separated from their money …
„Good business is where you find it!“
This attitude does nothing else but cultivate stupidity by exploiting it, and thus … I don’t agree.
Assigned at birth or "assumed" ?I'm confused as XLR cables have gender.
