I usually avoid (endless) threads like these about cables and wires. 😒
But yes, cables can definitely be "directional"!
In fact, the speaker cables I use, 16g lamp cord are directional!
From the back of my amp the go straight down to the floor, then left and right along the wall to each speaker, and then back up the rear of the speakers to their binding posts.

You and I have a good understanding of each other. I wonder how the younguns view us..doing the smackdown, dissin each other, on rare occasion actually talking "stuff" like NEC.
Hopefully, they learn that this is how it is supposed to be..

I wonder how many copper wire extrusion factories were built in the wrong direction? Think I'll stick to ones built East - West.
All my mains and XLR cables are directional with a very noticeable effect if I get them the wrong way around, sod having to twist over the ends to get them to line up with the pins on the connectors...
There can be misunderstanding about XLR gender.
What matters is the pins and holes ( not the plug's body ).
Now days one can have trouble teaching this.
