Are Cables Really Directional?

From my limited understanding, few, if any, have completely figured out Faraday. There is some reall deep stuff that eludes most.

dave
I work with some who are really up that ladder.

Went to a friend's office, asked him if I could borrow Jackson, or some similar text. He told me he didn't have any.

What?? You don't have any E/M theory textbooks?? You're an E/M physicist!!

No.

Why not??

I derive everything I need from Maxwell's equations.

Why?

And I quote..."that way I know it's correct".

Sigh. Actually, he was that good.

Sorry Bill, just had to....
U/S cleaner on left, grinder next, ring saw right, glass storage on shelves.
3D printed fan holder, grinder bit holder, copper tape holder/dispenser, tool holder, and soldering station.
What's under the ring saw? Looks like a bass bin with that carpet on.
Handles on left drawers 3d printed. Resistor color coded of course.
I admire anyone who can have that many drawers without any labels and still know where things are. I'm going to drive myself mad trying to work out the model of turntable on the shelf. Looks technics but I'll need to zoom in 😛

D##M your good. Scarily good.

That is indeed a bass bin. Handles, cup on top, (mid/high cab is a delta pro 12 with a selenium D205TI tweet on a 40 by 40 degree horn, I still use that for PA apps.). 15 inch omega pro IIRC. The one with the handles is the twin gutted. I've the other 15 and a sigma pro 18 gathering dust behind a white hinged panel as in the pic.

Both retired. From my antique clock repair stuff (pendulum equation) , it would seem that gravity is a constant. However, over the years, I find that what is supposed to be constant is not, gravity is indeed increasing. I remember the days (Y2K) when I could sling that puppy up over my shoulder. Now, yah right.

Who said I know where everything is? I know the general area but still require several guesses first.
Seven of those drawers have 3D printed parts bins, about 7 kilograms worth. Unfortunately, all the M2, 2.5, 3, 4, #1, 2, 3, 4 5, 6 and 8 screw size bins were designed and printed before I realized that you really need a curved bottom-to-front edge to help get the really small parts out of the bin.

As to the TT, very good eye. It's a technics SL-220. I gave away two, with about 25 albums, tossed about 1200 pieces of vinyl, kept about 700. I still have two SL-220's and a pair of SL-5100 direct drives left, those in carrying cases. Also a pair of denon 1600 dual CD DJ players with mixers.

My wife used to say, lose something in the basement before bringing something else in. Now, that is most certainly true and she is laughing from above.. I'm making a pair of flip tables to combine the wood bandsaw, drill press, oscillating sander and pin router to make room. I need a place for the glass kiln, steam generator for wood bending, vacuum pump setup for epoxy impregnation, and god forbid, some leftover horizontal surface to actually do some work on.

Sigh, so may projects, so little time.

Very neat. Why are the panels behind the workbench hinged?
My house is from 1885 (not 1850), it was built on a half deep brick foundation. Somewhere within the following century of life, they dug down to make it a full basement, but had to not cut too close to the existing foundation to prevent undermining. So the wall has a 3 foot deep shelf. I made the hinged panels to provide vertical area for the various 3 d printed tool holders, but behind it I store various articles like chemicals and stock.
I had to do the same in the new part of the basement on the side with my 10 foot workbench, as the house next door is 5 feet from me so making an 8 foot deep basement would have gone 4 feet below a 45 degree slope from her footing, her kitchen might have ended up in my basement.

JN,

My shop is only half an acre. Enough stuff has accumulated that there are only three main aisles to move around!

Some of my machines require safety space around them. Best example is not to stand next to the turret punch when it is working. It can push a sheet of 1/8” steel as much a 4 feet out of the machine towards the loading side in under a second.

The press brake will lift whatever you are bending 45 degrees into the air! Think of an 8’ piece of flat stock getting a lip on the end!

Table saw moving table travel can accommodate a 10’ piece of material. So total travel space is 20’!!!

Of course the biggest issue turns out to be the lawnmower. I found the 5 gallon container of gasoline sitting on the floor next to the natural gas furnace! Need to have a chat with a few folks and a piece of 2x4!!

(I do have two steel self closing cabinets intended to vent outside the building to hold flammable liquids!)

Boy is this post way off topic!

I store my liquids on a shelf at the bottom of my shop press. Mainly west system epoxy and glues.
Your liquid system is much better.
You could easily tuck my house in a corner of your shop.
Off topic in the lounge? Shirley you jest..

I do have insurance inspections for among other things fire safety every year. Once I had an issue, someone had left a cover off of an electrical junction box in the wood shop. Seems someone (no longer in my employment) was adding an outlet and did not replace the cover. No doubt sawdust would have built up in the box and possibly started a fire, perhaps even when no one was present.

The inspector was nice and allowed to to install the cover while he watched so he could give us a pass!

Probably wouldn’t have worried about the cover if I could have forced the directional electricity to stay in the box! 😉

Ceratinly shows more talent than in my one and only stained-glass effort.

You might want to email me, (if you have time), i am sure that you can learn from Buzz, and i think he may be very interested in your glass-making, he is bemoaning the disapearance of quality glass, he is particualrily unhappy that Spectrum closed down.

dave
Dave,
I am unable to email you for reasons I would need a grandchild to solve..there's never one around when you need em..
wait, my Ipad just might..

Funny how these continuing discussions continue ;-) because people parse each and every word in isolation rather than trying to understand the meaning of what was said. What a waste!

JN, your patience in trying to educate those who aren't interested in gaining understanding is incredible!

I have a tremendous amount of experience trying to teach someone who is rude, ignorant, self absorbed, arrogant, full of himself, confident that he knows all...

Luckily, I married a woman who was able to bring that idiot down to earth. She taught me a lot..

Now... I'm just old...

How have you been, long time no talk. Seriously looking to retire....

Where do you buy circular horses? I think John's workplace usually assume spherical horses...
Circular, spherical, horses, cows, hens.... all based on a simple transformation.

Retirement means you'll be your own boss!
I've been fixed up with two new shoulder joints and one new knee joint. One more to go.
We live in the best of times!

Jan
Whoa, lots of ops..
I'm fighting an ACL, hip labrum, shoulder labrum, and now abdominal muscles failing/spilling of guts.

In prep for retirement, I've been getting hobbies ready. Metal lathe and mill, many wood tools, stained glass, clocks, electronics, wood steaming, 3D printing, a few more things...then it dawned on me... everything I've started doing requires I stay in the basement..

Awfully hermit like, mad scientist, social shunning...sigh.

Good luck with the spare parts installations. I am afraid I am on the same path.

However, my current plan is to die at the age of 105 at the hands of a jealous husband..

JN,

Show some ethics, jealous former boyfriend!
If I make it past 100, ethics be dam#ed.😊

Especially if I can make a husband jealous...
Reality of course, is just making it through each calendar year..

ps.. had my run in with the inspector during the addition build for my house.
I was on the second floor running cable, cat5e, speakers, thermostats, when someone climbed the ladder to come in the window (no entrance from the house at the time). Twas the electrical inspector.. Me, canary in mouth look... ummm, hi. who are you?
Oh, I'm the electrical inspector..here to inspect..

Me: umm, I can open the basement to allow you to inspect the new 200 amp service...(that you are here to inspect while I sh#t my pants)
him: Nah, no need.

Me: um, huh?

Him: paper is already stuck to the front window....you passed.

Me: Uh, what?

Him.. we're done here, you passed initial.

me: ummm..huh?

Him: you used "####" as your electrician..there are telltales I can see from the street.

Me: ummm, yah, OK...,

Him: When I have a code question, I call "####". he's the best. Every job he does, there is NOTHING I can find wrong, and if I question it, he explains the actual code to me, article and number..and if I have a code question, he explains it to me...

me: uh, ok...
