Looking for something similar to the phy-hp -- piezo with paper cone.
Are all piezo tweeters with paper cone?

No, they are not the same. They are all different. You can get a ribbon type tweeter, what's your problem with that?!

😱 The OP asks about Piezo Tweeters ($5/10 stuff) and you post a truckload of magnetic, ribbon tweeters, from $50 to over $500? 😱
Back to Noviygera: no they are not the same, there are better and worse, price is some kind of a guide.
If you read the Boominator thread, they often suggest a very good one, which is still inexpensive.
it is hard for ceramic piezo to be good broadband sound transducers
there were some PVDF piezo plastic tweeters which have potential - at least better BW than ceramic
not overwhelmingly popular, doubt they were ever seen in hobby distribution

I tried a lot of them over the years and was hunting for a bargain.
I coated the membrane, i damped the plastic housing, i put on a resistor and a cap.
All where crap for HiFi.

Audax and Gallo use a diffent principle that seems to work :Piezo speakers
I think Pioneer did something similar earlier.
I have only experince with the Audax.
It is very good but rather expensive and the units i had suffered from loss of preasure.
There is now a service to pump them up again.
If i had known i maybe had kept it.

The Pioneer ones with the piezo plastics form the late seventies were called "high-polymer" tweeters. Their flagship speaker back then was the HPM 150 with an omnidirectional high-polymer tweeter:

The Audax piezo-foil tweeter was an interesting animal, sure it worked as a super-tweeter above 5-6k, but due to its operating principle its response has changed from day-to day, according to the weather...... 😀. Before storm fronts the "bubble" was very tight, at times of high pressure fronts it softened ,wrinkled pretty ugly. (its tightness was controlled by contant pressure gas in the diaphragm)
You must be kidding me, maybe all your money in the bank is not enough to buy one?!😱 The OP asks about Piezo Tweeters ($5/10 stuff) and you post a truckload of magnetic, ribbon tweeters, from $50 to over $500? 😱

PHY-HP TW37 is a very expensive driver, it can cost you a few hundreds (EU) or a few thousands in the US (OP).
Ribbons are the best option.
One of the last persons to best implementing piezos was Wayne Parham with the Motorola KSN 1038

That Motorola was maybe the best one of it´s type.
Problem is that there are so many fakes and copies on the market so that you can not be sure it´s a Motorola. Has anybody a source for that Motorola ?

In reality it is eerie similar to the 2" Motorola KSN1020A piezo cone tweeter, at $15.14 on Amazon and US $8.54 on Ebay.

This is as good as it gets WRT a 'quality' replacement: US SPEAKER Home Page Menu - Speaker Cabinets, Guitar & amp; Bass Amps, upgrades and custom design. The world’s widest choice of speaker parts. “If you have listened to live music, you have almost certainly listened to Eminence”
Click 'Supertweeters' at left, then 'CTS' at top of new window & be prepared for 'sticker shock'.

GM,
for the OP what about the Ciare from your link?!
Lack of initial information is detrimental for posters at diyAudio.

note: I suppose the OP has a PHY-HP main driver, if not it doesn't make sense wasting my time...

I don't have any knowledge of either of these drivers, only the original Motorola and its actual replacements, though my SWAG is that none of the 'vintage' design piezos will be in the same 'league' as either of them.
FWIW, the only super-tweeters I've auditioned worth mating to a high quality sound system are some of the high end ribbons and Foster/Fostex compression horns.

To update my OP with reference to all replies:
I have tried a various tweeter types in my system: ribbon, AMT, dome.
I have not tried a paper piezo like the PHY-hp. Since it is so expensive, I would like to try a similar sounding tweeter. My guess is that another "paper piezo" would be a good idea of the PHY-hp sound.
Therefore I am searching for a tweeter in sound similar to PHY-HP.
thanks,
Herman

Understood.
Not necessarily.
Anyway, you might have more luck finding folks who have auditioned the Phy-hp on a French audio forum.

Motorola Piezo
This tweeter has the Motorola name and logo embedded in the plastic, and printed on it the number 643. The same number 643 is on all six of the tweeters that I have, so maybe 643 is the model number. These I purchased I think in the 1980s. Is this a good one?

Pete

I think the 80th is too early for a Chinese copy so they may be the original ones.
Thanks for the feedback. Piezo tweeter- an interesting design.
