I think with all discussion on this subject,

It depends if you think that life is "anything" at all..or if you regard the universe a separate entity to living things..or if you think both the universe and us are not "alive" ie life is not special...or if you regard the universe and living things one and the same.

I don't regard my self religious in any context..I stand by the thought that (there IS only what there IS, there IS nothing else!)

Most people I would think are at the attendance of parents and partners parents..deaths.
Funerals have no direct relevance for me..the memory is upsetting...I don't feel anyone..in my opinion I feel the body after death becomes an object..its just a feeling I get.

I personally think we are part of the universe..how are we not part of it after death?
Even if life is a sort of fake reaction that makes us look alive..the universe had the ability to create this illusion..why shouldn't it have other things?

I don't understand the concept propounded by many people in the West and the East that Life is an illusion !
That should mean that we cannot touch anything. I don't buy that.
What about our DIY situation , piano finish , differences between drivers and different cone material ,snake oil material etc.etc. All illusion ?
No, doesn't make sense.🙂

I think the idea is that if we were part of a grand illusion ie lets say we were in a giant copy of the Sims computer program everthing within the program would feel real to us and we would not be able to tell..however from outside the computer screen the observer would know its an illusion even if they themselves were in another illusion and not aware of it..🙂

Looking at it another way we would be able to touch everything that was part of our illusion like in a dream..ie the universe is an illusion. Anything not part of the illusion would be invisible to us and we would not be able to touch or feel it. A bit like another dimension.

Yet another way of looking at it is the Matrix (film) we are in the matrix and not aware of it..

I had major surgery a few years ago, it did not go to plan. What was to have been a four hour operation turned into a six and a half hour ordeal. Apparently they lost me at one point and had to revive me. I don't remember anything about it, no NDE.

I do sometimes get a flashback of alarms and panicking surgical staff.

I had several "NDEs" when I was a kid. Yah, with the light at the end of the tunnel and all that.

Vastly, vastly, rotten experience. Inauthentic, lousy phenomenological qualities.

Our life is constructed of the relation us <-> world. And when that's broken, it's over. Done. Finished.

Thats pretty much the way I see life too.

I got high sided at Brands Hatch after my bike (a 1990 NSR250) got unsettled by taking too much curb.
I got high-sided, hit the ground then slid, the got aired again when I hit the grass.
I hit the barrier at a 45deg angle going bac'ards and upside down, passed out for a short while and woke being carried to the blood-wagon, Ranting my head off at the indignation of being strapped down.
I died while they were hooking me up to ecg / cutting my leathers to get IV's in and a second time while on my way to x-ray.
The only bright lights I saw were the ones in the hospital ceiling.
The only 'Angels' were the staff and my fiancee of the time.

Read Susan Blackmore for a somewhat more rational account of NDEs.

Blackmore is one of my favorite writers. I read her first book and saw where in all her searching for ESP/Paranormal she finally found a correlation - an inverse one between belief in predicting the future and knowledge of statistics. This is my favorite writing of hers, "Why I Have Given Up," longish but well worth reading:

I knew there must be some reason I liked your posts. It's the Quantum Resonance between us!
My dog had one, but he wouldn't talk about it.
Smart dog!
This is a thread of quality and interest?
Am I a man of wealth and taste? Please allow me to introduce myself...
