I cannot claim to have had an NDE, but have been exceptionally ill in my lifetime - which certainly makes one feel more 'mortal'.
Sometimes, when searching for answers, the problem either goes away, or comes up with an answer which is impossible to understand / believe, and we just need to accept them for what they are. YouTube - double slit experiment / 2 slits experiment -BBC Horizon, episode: What is Reality? Well worth watching if you have 5 mins and 11 seconds to spare, as the last minutes throws up a very interesting question.

My second chance at a Firesign reference today!
I know this is the Lounge but that`s way OT though.
If you're not interested don't read it. I thank Peckerwood for taking the trouble to post that info about sharks. Besides, if you're in the water and see a big shark, that counts as a NDE to me. I could tell a little story about a shark encounter (don't fear, i'm not going to) that scared me to death.
Reunion by Dr.Raymond Moody.
I just received my copy of this book. Read about 30 pages so far. I'm riveted to the book !😱
An incredible read. I'm surely going to try one of those things soon.
Suggest that those who like to try out off beat things get this book and read it cover to cover and EXPERIMENT !
Might change your whole perspective on life if it works !😉
Want to boost your creativity etc. ? Read this and several other books mentioned in the text.

Are you still on the near death topic? Isn't that the kind of experimentation that David Carradine and Michael Hutchence went a smidge too far with?
I think I'll pass...
It has nothing to do with them (except that somebody said they are afraid of being attacked by a shark a few posts or less before that) but it has just as much to do with them as the last several posts before I posted about sharks which I did not bring up first. In fact I would say at the time I made the posts the topic was clearly the intelect of humans and whether or not animals have any intelect and if so how it compares to humans which has nothing to do with NDE's and in fact has less to do with it than sharks in my opinion. I always figured the lounge would be tolerant of it. Actually, while I could be wrong I kind of always figured that this section was basically an "off topic" section that happened to be called "the lounge" so even if I were the first one to bring up sharks it would not be a problem. But if a bunch of other people also complain about it then I guess I will have been wrong about that.
My guess is that if I posted that much about NDE's you probably wouldn't have liked it much better but again I could be wrong. I don't get to post here every day or anything so I like to make up for it by making post's that are probably longer than is typical sometimes.
IN all fairness I really couldn't think of a shorter way to address somebodies fear of sharks as not being unfounded that would be adequate especially considering that mine is not the common viewpoint on the subject. That is why I felt it needed some explaining more than a lot of things do.
Thank you stalker and I know exactly what you mean. Just seeing one in the water when you are on a boat will strike fear into most people like they have never felt even if the shark does nothing. Seeing them on TV is one thing but they seem so much more dangerous in real life. Very few people would not be extremely worried about it even seeing a medium sized shark not in the top 3 maneaters that is not behaving aggressively. They might think they wouldn't but they would. I have seen them while on a bigger boat the the shark in what I would call at sea (because I couldn't see land in any direction) but is actually considered a "sound" whatever that is off the coast of Washington State and it was not doing anything but swimming and I was petrified. No kidding. I never got scared watching shark week on the discovery channel though. I must admit that there are a thousand other things in the ocean besides sharks that I am afraid of including just the water. I can sort of swim for maybe an hour or so but I am not a strong enough swimmer to do much more than that so even the water scares me especially if I can't even see the land. A three foot long shark looks huge when you see it in person I promise you.

MJL I am with you. I don't care how much better it might make an orgasm I am not going to strangle myself on purpose or let anybody else do it. Sex can be weird but in my opinion it should not be dangerous (physically) much less deadly. And no matter what you achieved in your entire life everybody would remember you for being found with your pants around you ankles, your junk in your hand and a rope around your neck. It just is not worth all that. No way.
I do believe if you strangle yourself you will start tripping at some point which I suppose some people could consider having an out of body experience but IMO it would be purely caused by lack of fresh oxygen in the blood in your brain and at another point shortly thereafter lack of it everywhere in your body but by then you might be brain dead which I am sure could cause the most vivid tripping possible. That's my best guess anyway because I will never try it.

Depends on who her husband is.
Two facts (lies) you are not aware of.
Have you ever known a liar? What does a liar do when he gets caught in his lie? He tells an even bigger lie to cover over the first lie.
The very first lie ever told, "You positively will not die." The second lie used to cover up the first lie when it became obvious that you do indeed die is: "Well OK, you do indeed die, but a mysterious inner part of you remains alive and then travels off to a better place."

Not sure if this topic is acceptable here. But then the subject has recently attracted the interest of many major news networks . Near Death Experience (NDE) is quite old actually ( the recorded incidents) but only recently has lots of material been published on it. Books ,TV reports etc.
Heard of shared NDE ? Where some " participants" are healthy normal people who accompany those who are dying...part of the way to the 'other side'.
My aunt who lives just a couple of blocks away was down with cancer ( for over a year). The day she died she asked for her son who had gone out. She said that her husband ( been dead for a few years now !) asked her ( just then ) if she wouldn't like to see her son before she left ! So as soon as he got back he went up to her and her eyes lit up and she smiled. A few minutes later she died.
Reading some of the books by Dr.Raymond Moody ( and there are many other authors too ) it looks so similar. I've heard 'stories' about such interactions with loved ones who have passed away from my home town. But this is the nearest I have got to one.The idea of being back with loved family and friends ( for a very long time !) is something to 'die for ' !🙂
Normally I would have no way of knowing but as it happens since I knew the guy who shot me I do know. They were Talon rounds. Illegal now but legal at the time. The gun was a .44 Magnum.
.44 Magnum Talon in the center mass 😱😱😱 The odds of getting to write about that afterwards in a blog have to be verrrrrry looooong. Not lucky to get shot, surely not with that round but damm lucky to survive!!

Excellent guess, because it is indeed true. The "tripping" is caused by the release of catecholamines in the brain.
OK so those who have posted recently didn't read the book Reunions!
So posting on that without reading wasn't a good idea.
Reunions, isn't about NDE .......but related things ! It is about trying to experience a non physical experience using methods that have nothing to do with bodily harm or approaching physical death . That would be a silly thing to suggest here.
Read the book FIRST. Then comment on it. It could be argued that the experience is just a fabrication of the mind. So why not try it and REALLY know first hand what it is all about ......AND it can be done VERY safely with no chance of bodily damage or even accidental death. Who knows, it might transform your existence very positively , like it did for many others.
Someone out here will have the patience and the guts to try this one. I will for sure. Wish there will be others who would join in and report what transpires. Like Dr.Moody his first tries resulted in nothing .......but don't give up! I'm sure Dr.Moody ( and others like him ) would love to get feedback on such experiments......so would a lot of us here!
So now get the book and read it. 😀

I think I'll pass on that too. It would take something on the order of a full frontal lobotomy to bring about the change that would let me accept any of the ideas that Moody represents.
🙂
The easy thing for me to do would be to tell you I will get it but it probably would not be true. I don't like anything like that because the people who are into it and believe in it whether it is religion or whatever it is (anybody who for whatever reason has that look on their face as if they just know they have everything figured out (like cult members etc....) seem kind of messed up and a little spooky to me. Not spooky as in some mystical power might come over me but spooky like one of the brainwashed cult members might call his buddies and decide to drive the demons out of my body or something. Sounds unlikely but it has happened a lot more times than most of us are comfortable believing. I am not an Atheist but the more religious people are the more they creep me out and not just religion but anything that gives them that look on their face I described above. Motivational speakers are another kind of that type and anybody who is obviously selling something as in some idea or lifestyle. It always leads to bad things it seems to me. Jim Jones, Koresh and many others were these type of guys.
Simpler approach...150 micrograms of lysergic acid diethylamide ingested orally will reliably produce the NDE (and many other altered states) under the guidance of an experienced coach. Back in the late 60s-early 70's it was all the rage!😎
True Kevin. So you are familiar with those rounds? They are not as destructive as people thought back then and some people still think. They were never intended to fragment that much or actually at all. They were designed to stay in one piece but the jacket would open up like a star and the jagged edges would rip flesh horribly. I don't have any data on what those rounds did in testing but the one that I caught did not do anything close to what it was designed to do. It exploded is the best way I can describe it. Maybe only the .44 magnums or certain other specific calibers and types or rounds (as in lots of powder and a light bullet or a heavy bullet and less powder etc...) did that because of the high muzzle velocity but I am not sure.
To be honest I believe a full metal jacket round would have killed me. Most people are on the opposite side in this debate but from what I have seen the ones on my side have more knowledge about gunshot wounds. That side being we believe an expanding bullet of any type might do more damage under ideal circumstances but there are rarely ideal circumstances and non expanding rounds are more deadly. The only "stopping power" is when somebody dies or is rendered completely incapacitated which requires penetrating a vital organ and a non expanding bullet is more likely to do that because it will penetrate farther.
I promise you that no bullet from any gun in the world can ever move anybodies body a fraction of an inch no matter how many times you shoot them or with which rounds. Stopping power is a myth.
If a bullet could knock you down it would have to knock down the person who fired it also.
I wouldn't call it center mass though. It went in my right hip below the waist. I guess you could consider that part of the center mass but not the center of it. The place I do not ever want to get hit (and I guess what I think of as center mass but really not so much now that I think about it) is anywhere there are guts and bones and not just meat and bones and it did not hit me there so that is an unbelievably good thing about it as I see it. A half an inch maybe an inch in any direction and it would have been a whole lot worse. I mean catastrophic. The possibilities would have been a gutshot, a shot in the junk (warhead ballistic missile or whatever you want to call it) or a liver or possible kidney shot (I actually can't remember what side the liver is on and I should but I'm going to say the right side because when I drink a little to much it is my right side that hurts) I would rather get shot between the eyes than in the stomach probably. Can't say for sure unless it happens. So I think of my stomach as center mass but only because that is where I am most afraid of catching a round. Usually a stomach wound will kill you eventually but not anytime soon and for sure kill you if you don't make it to a good hospital really fast. They won't stop bleeding. You can't cut off the blood to vital organs to keep from bleeding out. It just seems to me (I could be wrong) like I would enjoy a stomach wound a lot less than any other type I can think of.

Yes - I think the Talon rounds were more about marketing than ballistic performance...for your sake I'm glad that was the case!!
There is no intelligent argument at all that can be made against that stuff making you trip. I did it before a few times. To be honest I hated it except the few times it was not very good and probably not real. It scared the sheepshkin out of me. I couldn't do anything and I thought everybody was after me. I was not seeing stuff that wasn't there but I was hearing things that weren't there. Any crowd of people seemed like they were all going <referring to me> "There he is over there! Let's get him!" and I knew there was no way they were really saying that but I wasn't going to chance it so I would run like I stole some stuff from Kmart. Did that many times in one episode but it was like 2 or 3 days or something. Absolutely ridicules. I see no point in ever doing that but I did it. I won't do any of that again.
The Black Talon was never illegal, it was just taken off the market by Winchester because of negative publicity.

Wow ,we really are tripping out here. Being killed by sharks and nasty guns etc..😀
NDE's don't kill , they are just reports ! Some posts just proves that threads can wander around a lot (OT posts!) . As long as they get back on track soon it doesn't matter much. We do get to know how other people think.
It is interesting to look at Book suggestions by people. We don't HAVE to read them ! Some might and that's all that matters. Others don't miss a thing as the subject matter wouldn't interest them in any case and they would not waste their time reading them and posting here. Life is a mix of millions of things and this is just one of them. Obviously not interesting to 'many' people.😉
