What you removed was the polarizer. Sometimes the AG and the polarizer stick together and come off together after soaking.

The polarizer is absolutely necessary for the LCD to work. If it is still in good shape after you removed it, you might be able to just tape around the edges to put it back on your LCD.

Offortionantly (wrong spelling) it is not in a good shape. I´ll buy a new one on 3dlens.com (22usd $) . (the old one had some scratches, the glad new is that i going to get a new one without scratches).

i've ruined an lcd trying to remove ag

Guys I understand this is a worth while mod, if you soak for 8 hours mininmum, but i've ruined my hp lcd because the polarizer had bubbles in it after the soak, and i tried to push them down, and it tore the polarizer, anyways i ruined an lcd, and wouldn't recommend this(I had bought an extra lcd when I bought this one, so i'm still ok, but out a very nice lcd panel)
 
I successfully removed the ag from 2 panels in one evening: a 15" samsung which I let stand for about 3-4 hrs and 15" planar which I let stand overnight and removed the following morning.

What I used was very simple: paper towel with tap water. Simply wet the towel until its damp, but not so much so that water is dripping out. Cover only the panel and not the electronics and let sit. Use a blade or knife edge to peel out a corner enough and remove with your hands. Work slowly until the entire sheet is removed.

Both work perfectly and brightness and contrast are far better than before.

I am going with the most basic diy project design: overhead projector+panel route

As far as i know there are at least 3 totally different types of AG films (technological speaking). Some of them are not so AG effective (older ones). Maybe pepe just had one of these in his LCD and that is why his results are not so impressive after removal. The newst technology AG filters are very very efficient and that's why when you remove them from the LCD the results are obvious even for blind people...

Just a thought...

Simpel question ...

I have got this LG LCD with 1400:1 contrast .... which seems to quite good , I am using 5400 Lumens OHP

Just found out that the screen has anti glare ... The result is quite sharp in complete darkness .... I don;t have urge to use projector with lights ...

Do you think its a good idea to go for anti-glare action...


Or if someone has used new LG LCD - Was there any significant difference after AG removal.


I am confused, because I have ruined 5", 7" and 14" till date

If your LCD has an anti-glare filter that is easily removed, then yes by all means do remove it! The difference is not that you would see a sharper image on the screen. You will see a much brighter image.

In our DIY LCD projectors we use fresnels to try to direct most of the light into the projection lens. Without an AG filter, the fresnels can get most of that light into the lens. With an AG filter in place, the light is much more scattered. The result is that much of the light does not get through (or even into) the projection lens.

In monitor or TV applications, AG filters are good since they both reduce glare reflections and they increase the viewing angle. But we do not want a wide viewing angle in our projectors: All of the rays going off in that wide cone are wasted.

If you are accidently damaging your LCDs, here is a tip: Get the LCD stripped of all the backlighting, and the boards disconnected enough so they can be flopped out of the way. Then leave it on the work bench until you have a nice solid frame prepared for it. This frame must be strong enough to protect the LCD glass from any sort of stress, and it must hold the LCD driver PC board(s) securely but gently out of the way. As you probably know by now, the flexible flat cables going to the LCD glass can not tolerate any stress. Once you get the LCD mounted in the frame, it will be much safer. Then you can try soaking off the AG filter, if you know it is removable.
 
So the light is already passing, this will not increase temperature of LCD. Only the direction of light will be changed. I hope it will not become essential to put LCD at 90 degrees to Lens , + - 3% will do....

As far as brightness is concerned , I am quite satisfied with the available results - if this has been sharpness then I should have definately opted for removal.

A sane decision will be to leave the LCD as it is.

The 5" got connections stripped off mother board
The 7" .... is not displaying
The 14" got some driver-board error (Will try to get these repaied in spare time)

I think "A sane decision will be to leave the CURRENT LCD as it is" , Because I use OHP at Econo mode not the max 5400 lumens, don't require them , I use it in complete darkness... faces with shades are quite clear as compared to my 200:1 IBM

thanks good info on removing anti-glare

i started to remove mine, and oooops!!! removed the polarizer! now been searching for replacement polarizing film... its gonna be at least $20 and i dont know if it will even work.

does anyone know where to get cheap polarizer film to replace this that will work right?

Don't know if you can get for much cheaper, but it should work. just make sure that it's a the correct orientation when placing it over (ie. it can't just be stuck over, you'll have to rotate the film until you can see a picture through it, then secure it down)

Also, you'll want to get the non-adhesive type

I just used an old shirt and an old pc case and layed the lcd panel on it and covered it with another shirt then just poured water on it.And left it for 3 hour's then i took and ipod screw driver and poked at one corner. And pull a little up so I just peeled the rest off in easy in one shot.Yeah i know its dangerous but i dont give a dam about this monitor it wont do 1920 x 1200 resolution.But i got a 17 inch that will haa haa thats next.But i still got to get a new bulb to really see if there any real difference since I removed the ag
