...when I end my political career...
Is the situation in Sweden as bad as the news tells us?
No no no no. Absolutely not!!!
It's worse.
Shortly with the three political groups - socialists, conservatives and ultranationalists and no group is in majority. No group what to be depending on the nationalists so either, a few parties from the conservatives support the socialists or we will have a new election.
Oh, forgot - bought a pack of eggs (15), granola, shrimp sallad and tea, today.
And I was convinced to continue my political job, so I have just spent $270 for an iPad in vain ...

I bough a DNA test kit for my wife for xmas.. There are lots of follow-on quips to this...
See Cal, no politics - nice to see you've kept up the moderating rather than retiring like me.

Is that the kind of DNA-kit for finding "relatives" around the globe?
Yes, I'm frightened she might be Swedish!
The thought has crossed my mind a time or two but I am fence sitting right now.I bough a DNA test kit for my wife for xmas

Thanks John, close to 14 years now. Always nice to run into you. 🙂
An investment property.
Aka never ending DIY project.
You mean like those gorgeous Swedish summer houses out on islands in the archipelago?
Yes I've stayed in one - lovely, like my wife.

Let's hope she has no Neanderthal DNA, but it would account for those hairy legs.

Given that she's white European, it's almost certain she has some Neanderthal DNA. But she's not good in the cold, so the hairy legs must just be a coincidence.

23 & me says i have Swedish in me. And Norwegian. Swedish probably because my 100% Norwegian Great Grandfather had some in him. IIRC something like 2.4% Neandrathal.

There have been too many reports of the DNA data from some of those "ancestry" sites being sold or otherwise being used for less than honest means, so I refuse to try it. It's a safe bet that there is a good chunk of Swedish in my family tree. Does it really matter enough for me to spend the money? No.....I'd rather make some noise. So.......
What Did I buy?
I have been slowly building a modular music synthesizer with bits and pieces from several odd sources, several modules of my own design, some MFOS PC boards, and more recently some Behringer stuff.
What, Behringer, the junk audio company......yes. They have done some decent modern renditions (OK, clones) of 70's and 80's classic synths. The most obvious is their m Model D, a modern take on the MiniMoog Model D.
I got one several months ago and like it.....and you can pop it out of its case and drop it into a Eurorack modular synth system. it even comes with the necessary power cable for the Eurorack case. It is a quick way to get started in Eurorack, and it's compatible with most Eurorack modules.
So, the retail machine has been baiting me with deals on music stuff since early November, and upon receipt of a check for some work done, I took the bait and got a discounted Behringer Neutron Synth. It's not a clone, but something of their own design, complete with Eurorack compatible patch bay. Now I need to add another row to my cabinet so that it will fit.

Read this first The Juggler's Children: A Journey into Family, Legend and the Genes that Bind Us: Carolyn Abraham: 9780679314592: Amazon.com: Books
It was written a few years ago but she is careful to point out the flaws and weaknesses in these tests. Plus a cracking good read.

Thanks. Looks like a good read, I've ordered a used copy.
Today I bought:
100 Watt foldable solar Charger for fishing, about USD1.5 per watt. I bought two, one is for me and one is a Christmas gift for my friend in Australia.

re DNA testing - wouldn't they show that going back far enough we are all either "African", or from the same garden?

That's what the "Out of Africa" theory says but it's complicated by the likelihood that several waves of population left over a very long time. Some waves took different paths and adapted to the differing conditions they encountered.
