Altec Lansing

dlh1948,

Since your'e going for full tilt on ALE compression drivers...

Try to get another matching pair of 416's - then separate each pair per channel, for dual drivers per bassbin... You could try the so-called "Onken W":

You could email the poster who owns the system above for more detailed plans. BTW, if you got the ALE drivers from Kevin Brooks why don't you ask him for suggestions...

The old French articles here are in HTML, at least you could do an online translation:

While Zen's having a green dream (with envy) I'll announce that jealousy is a curse. (and IIRC he's second in line for a set of plans)

I think I have enough views of those big horns to draw up plans. They'd be good on the workshop shed pointed at the paddock, and my neighbour that likes trance at 2 in the morning.

Are you planning 2 of those 3184s in each cab? Then stack a 511 on top to stay ahead of Cal.

The horns look in good shape. Nice.

Geoff.

Mr. Emordnelap,

No auditorium, just something I had to do. Wasn't happy with the old woofers, that's all. ;)

515B`s or something else? Were they faulty or just insufficient? I have some 421 8H SII in my four tiny 816A bins. Probably better drivers available now for reinforcement work although with nothing to compare to I think they are pretty good.

BTW, that`s emordnelaP .rM to you. ;)

I recently mused about what the trade-offs would be, MLTL's vs. Onken with Altec 414... What are your thoughts on this?

It got me curious coz I heard this enclosure design http://www.t-linespeakers.org/projects/yves/index.html
used with JBL 2213..........

But with recent better predictive software like MJK's sheets, I think this 'traditional TL' could be improved upon...

Merry Christmas!

A belated Merry Christmas to you too! ;)

MLTLs, just as good performance IMO with a lot less woodworking. Doesn't look nearly as industrial chic though. One dude added some molding and painted the insets matte black to mimic the Onken's vents.

For sure it can with mass loading (adding a vent).

Greets!

Hmm, if ALEs are going to be used, then dual GOTO SG-38WNSS or SG-38WNSSP loaded Onkens or similar seems the 'no brainer' choice to me since it's not my check to write. If these are budget busters, then dual 515Bs works for me. :)

If the published plot is reasonably accurate, this driver seems a poor choice for the 210 unless XO'd down around 216 Hz. It looks like the Brazilians have finally gotten their 'act' together though, the Seleniums I viewed/auditioned 5-6? years ago were really bad compared to Altecs, JBLs, but then they were a lot cheaper too.

They were Pyramid car drivers and the foam surrounds were contacting the baffle at high excursion. These now match the units in the A7 cabinets.

Yes Sir!

Ooohhh. Nice! That WPU 1507 sure looks "healthy." Glad I didn't pay shipping. ;)

Yes, I think they around 20 or 25 lbs each.

That will be just fine. I run them from a plate amp or with an active XO and regular amp. They are not likely to see above 125, although I still have the passive network in there at 250 2nd order if I wish. They are only to augment the low end from the 825 cabinets. I am continuing to fool with the padding and notching of those. Getting close. It will make a nice loud system when complete. Only problem is, it's winter...

Build quality and price have gone up. All of my pro gear is Selenium and I have no complaints.
