According to data sheets downloaded from altecpro.com, the 416-8A has a 2.4 pound Alnico magnet with 12,000 gauss flux density, the 416-8B has a 39 ounce (2.4375 lb) Alnico magnet with 11,000 gauss, and the 416-8C has a 4.875 pound ferrite magnet with 11,000 gauss. As you can see from the composite picture I attached, the magnet on the B version has a different shape from the one on the A version. The 416-8B data sheet was dated 12/87. So far it appears that the A version can use either basket with the same magnet structure. I'll take a look tomorrow for the date code on the one with the cast frame.

Cool. Looks like what you and I have are the "A" magnet with "B" frame. Wonder how many of those were made - and when?

I have no idea where those were taken, I just grabbed them from the 'net. Here in Vancouver we get at least 3 or 4 days of sun every year.
Hey Tom, I know we're a very large but seemingly little country but I still think we deserve a capital C, don't we? 😉
Cheers.
In the 816A: 515G-HP, + Mantaray; MRII 594A; 299A HF drivers.
Still looking for a pair "supertweeters" for the top...
The dbx DriveRack 260 is like an expensive Behringer DCX2496, x-over & eq in one.
I switch between this and a diy "Active Filter Four", but some eq is needed...and I'm still looking for a good analog eq.
