That looks a lot more like a Spark-O-Matic coffee maker to me. Two four inch subwoofers in shiny black plastic rated at no doubt 1000 watts each driven by a shared 13 watt wall wort.
The evolutional and technological product progress is nothing less than astonishing!

No chorus? Perhaps a bit of history lesson is in order here. The company that made cheap car radio and car stereo products named Spark-O-Matic is now the owner of the name Altec. Altec, a name that once stood for the finest audio equipment has like so many other worthwhile companies fallen victim to globalization and the greed of invisible shareholders who care not that the company makes garbage, just so long as it can produce and sell a lot of garbage.
Altec Field Coils
Any body out there using field coils? I noticed a "remanufactor" several months ago and now a different field coil manufactor using an Altec cover for a "botique" unit with out much info as to coil voltage / range etc selling on ebay....

the Altec Cycle-Can't buy me luv
It reminds me of two brit bits of wisdom "paraphrased" for context:
"Those who disregard, disrespect, disbelieve history are bound to repeat it....
"The problem with materialism / socialism is sooner or later you run out of other peoples money, good reputation, talent, intellectual content, name branding etc..."

Two pair of A-7s, one pair with Altec cabinets and one pair with home-made cabinets. The latter have 416-8A woofers of different vintage, which leads me to some questions.
All of the EIA code lists I can find show 391 as the code for Altec Lansing speakers, and that is what I find on the components of the green 16-ohm drivers in the Altec cabinets (391808, 391812), but the black 8-ohm woofer in one home-made cabinet is marked 191032 (S/N 2779). I haven't located the date code on the other one, but it's obviously newer and has S/N 33452. Here are my questions:
1. What is the significance of 191 instead of 391 as the manufacturer code?
2. How can I tell the decade in which the components were manufactured (i.e. is 191032 the 32nd week of 1950, 1960, or 1970?)
3. Does the style of label help in dating the drivers? I've attached photos of 3 different woofers.
Thanks in advance for any words of wisdom you can offer.

Hey Bob - interesting pix of the 416's. The middle one you posted looks just like my pair of 416-8A. Alnico magnet, but cast 16" "grasshopper" frame.
Don't know when they were made. Maybe Altec had some of the Alnico motors left over and put them on the cast frame. Who knows?
