Yes the woofer is. It may not be good with no caps on mid but i'm just playing.

I listened to Rebbecca Pidgeon and Kraftwerk and the sound detail is uncomparable. The sensitivity of the mids also rised so don't take my word for the better mids and try it too if you bought cheapo caps like I did.

After some careful listening with and without caps on mids with and withouth woofers the mids seem to be somehow more open and with more heights when no capacitors are present.

So i changed 8.2mH on woofers to 12mH because the bass was otherwise disturbing and left mids without caps. Will test more.

absolutely valid approach , but in that case little 6" is fragile for any louder listening ;

that's why you need best cap you can have in series with him...........

you can always use plain bip elco and one little block cap in parallel.

even if you pay some auricap or something ........ that's cheap if you think that you must pay drekload of money for any finished spks in that range of sound

Thanks for your thoughts guys. I played some music at highish volumes and there was no problem with alphas. But I'll be gentle to them till i try new caps.

So far i'm looking forward to try MKP condensers instead of my old MKT. They're not as cheap as MKTs and i buy them straight from the factory where they make them. I also want to lay my hands on KPSn condensers for the tweeter, but i'll have to wait a while for both because i can only buy leftovers from production🙂. (I enjoy every part of the process.)

For now i'm very pleased with the result and would like to try enabling the drivers.

After reading Tony Gee's page, I switched my Parts express caps to Clarity Cap PX on the tweeter, and was AMAZED at the difference. I guess I really didn't believe it would be so obvious. The tweeters went from harsh and bright to smooth and just a little bright.

After few days of listening to the test XO setup i thought it was good. But with help of my friend Tomas i realised it was crap. We played with the XO a bit and te original setup seems to be the best.

And the woofer really needs to have inverted polarity. Play pinknoise on one[\b] speaker, place your ears in vertical line so you hear alpha in one ear and beta in the other ear and listen for pseudo-space. There is no stereo space in mono pink noise.

Today i hope to get the notch and lpad parts i couldn't get earlier.

Hi,

Please let us know what is your setup. So, 8.2 mH on the bass and 68uF on the mid? I guess it's a parallel one.Did you try a series crossover?

Yes. 8.2mH on inverted polarity woofer. 68uF on mid and 1.7uf on tweeter. Normal polarity. Every cap and coil is in serie with its driver.

I didn't try series crossover, just different values of caps and coils.

After i heard and felt Sigma 18 i'm curious about buying another two woofers. Don't get me wrong - sound is great but it doesn't shake like the sigma🙂. Im thinking about W frame or a simple baffle. What do you think Choky?

What values did you use?


My XO is same as your's.. 🙂


8.2mH for Beta,
68uf for Alpha,
2.2uf for APT...

Buchrout for Beta is 15uf and 8.2r...

L-Pad for APT-80 is 4.7r and 5r..


Regarding the EnABl treatment... I only have the blocks applied and still waiting for the micro gloss stuff...

Only the blocks made a subtle difference in sound.. Pretty much every aspect improved thou.. They sound just as before, but more clear, more relaxed and more details...

I'll post more impressions later when the micro gloss arrives..
