you can expect benefits from boucherot only in upper part of range ,but only if you gave xover in that range (Low pass) ;
because your alpha have just HP xover, there is no benefit in impedance linearisation with boucherot
From Zen Mod I learn every day 🙂
I would like to tame the peak around 5kHz a bit.. but maybe I should wait for the EnABL treatment before I do anything to the XO? Maybe a notch?
How's your house refubishing coming along?

yes , exactly

repetitio est mater studiorum....... (hehe- next time I'll know some things better)
or
langsam ,aber sicher .....

My babies http://hantl.info/~spks/my-all-eminence-ob/temple-of-heaven.jpg are finished🙂. Now i use only EQ on my esi juli@ to boost the bass a little. They might have more bass as they break in, so i'll report the process eventually.
They play very effortlessly, which is really nice. Also they sound very good at low levels. Which i didn't expect.
to Younick: I wonder what is the loss of closenes you talked about. Can you describe the difference on a song we both know or can get?
Edit: Some loud Madonna, Timo Maas, Frank Zappa, Primus and Lordi and.. bass is here! These drivers rock. Thank you guys for having patience with me🙂.

Edit 2 : According to mum some bass is still missing. I added some bass and must agree. Women know the best.
Hakunin,
'Women know best".
🙂
Lynn Olson recommends mounting the lower driver as close to floor as possible. This effectively doubles its radiating area which would improve the bass output,( as is the case with BLH. )

The closness I talked about is a bit hard to explain.. I hope you understand.. 🙂
For example:Damien Rice - 9 , 9 Crimes...
With my old spks, (female vocal and acoustic music ) the singer was standing in front of me.. singing just for me.. very intimate.. On "larger" recordings (rock, Live rec) the soundstage feels cramped instead....
With the OB's she is still on "stage".. She just took two steps back.. Standing between the spks..
They truly are a joy to listen to as they are now.. I can't wait for the EnABL treatment and perhaps a PP..
I think I will try to rebuild my OB's too.. Put the Beta closer to the floor and the tweeter closer to the maindriver.. But when do I find the time :/

Isn't this always the way it is..? 🙂
Keep fighting.. 🙂

main thing you have now - by my (always humble) opinion is- that piano (for instance) is big as almost real piano ..... no more miniature
once you have this,it's hard to walk back
edit:
do not overestimate expecting much benefit from putting bass driver closer to floor ; it's easy to have bass boomy with that
you can try to make side wings somewhat longer (lower half- ,make them longer to back) ......
you can try (test) that with spare wood plates and clamps
I think I might have found my mid driver for my all OB speaker. I can actually buy it down here. 🙂

The bass driver is this. http://members.optusnet.com.au/~gradds55/Jaycar15 PA.jpg
Now just have to think about the top end !!!

that celestion looks soo Eminence-ish to me .........

Zenmod, I suppose they all look emminenseish at the moment 😀
Andy, I have been looking at that celestion too, looks good - fore tweeter, how about a small fullrange(TB?), it will give you a pure ob design

2 problems there..
1. I don't think any of them are efficient enough need like 94dB !
2. I can't get TB down here.
I suppose you will need a mild notch on midrange, which will bring efficiency down a bit😉 besides, the celestion doesnt appear to be 94db on the graph chart, only at the very top
Zen Mod ... Here is a response I got from Celestion:
"It (Celestion TF0818) sounds good in pro and these no reason why it wouldn't do a good job as your hifi mid. You would get a less aggressive, smoother sound out of the NTR08-2011D but at a higher price. Regards, The Doc"

I think I prefer the frequency curve on the TF0818.. not so much stuffing about with x-o components.
Of course if one goes digital EQ ........

TF looks better , at least on paper ......... it's hard nowadays to believe in absolute honesty in mnftrr graphs , anyway.......
at least it seems better candidate (easier) for EnABL and Mamboni treatments
ask BudP for his own xperience with Alpha8 ........ they're similar enough with TF
Well, nothing happens until early October.
Funds will hopefully be available then !!
Anyway, I have another smaller speaker I want to build first.
It will be a bookcase or stand mount style 3-way about 2ft high.
Drivers are vented Vifa M18WO (obtained free ;-)) thanks Rick C from Sydney!!
Peerless 4" HDS poly OB (would have preferred the Nomex but out of stock).
Tweeter will be the Audax TM020J7 (titanium dome). -- now there a sweet sounding little tweeter !
There will be no mdf used in the cabinet, only natural timber.
With a natural timbre.. (you can thank Bod B on PE forum for that one) 😀

Well, call me a late starter. Been enjoying my OBs too much and experimenting with different XO freqs.
Conclusion. The series crossover is the way to go to the bottom end. And the XO freq close to the Fr of the main driver. Mines a 2 way, presently crossed over at 75Hz.
A useful thing happens here. As F goes down, the Z of the driver goes down. The bass roll off is much greater than 6 dB/octave, and on a single cap. The cap is also much smaller, as the Z is much higher than the nominal 8 ohms.
I stumbled on this when tuning by ear. Mids are better defined to.
Another trick to quickly check the crossover freq is to connect a 3v 50mA lamp to the drivers, and sweep either side of the xo freq. When both lamps glow equal, you're at the xo freq.
Andy, and other fellow ozzies, have you tried WES components in Sydney for MI drivers? I haven't, but they are worth investigating.
There is an 8" guitar driver that may make a good OB.
Geoff.

Yep, I've been looking at that one a bit. Its a Dai1Chi driver, not sure what it would be like!!
Tempted to buy one, just to see. But what do I then use it for if I don't like it?
