Aleph J illustrated build guide

well, we still din't got info that it actually sings .......

:devily:

First listen done. My wife in the audience. I will listen more later and tomorrow. My wifes judgement is as follows:

«Incredible voice clarity. Great sense of space. I feel like the artist is with me in the room.»

Observing her listen, I noticed the following: tears on the first song, and playing air guitar on the second. I also noticed the complete absence of modulation on female voices. Incredible. Treble is smooth, sense of ease overall. Depth is good from the get go.

In other words: an engaging and lovely amp. A very good start!

Speakers I suspect need some work in the bass section. But that will be a chapter of it’s own.

And yes, it is quiet :clown:

🙂

Good start🙂 And a music system always nerds to be readjusted for the new component. The placement of the speakers are absolutely crucial! It takes time to find the optimum placement.

Every single millimeter from the back wall counts! Every single degree of toe in counts!🙂

What kind of speakers are you using in the music system?

I use Alpair 12Ps in pencil boxes. Bought used. I don’t think they are burned in yet, Mark says it takes hundreds of hours. Also, the terminals are crappy. So I plan on revisiting the speakers a bit and reterminate and solder all wires, perhaps replacing internal wiring.

And playing. A lot. sounding better by the hour 🙂

Andyroy, am glad that you like it and that is quiet 🙂 It seems that all diyers like the results.

Im near the finish too. Dual mono with 300VA donut and 176.000uf CRC per channel.
Finger cross for startup without magic smoke.

Looks very, very nice. Magic smoke is just a testament of fearlessness, nothing to fear. Just keep fire extinguisher and goggles close at hand. Nothing more than a learning opportunity :clown:

It won’t blow 🙂

Hey All -

I've decided to tackle an Aleph J build using the DIY Aleph J Build Guide on the Blogspot website. This will be my first amp build so please bear with me. 🙏🏽

I have ordered all the parts from the saved Mouser cart that were available at Mouser/Digi-Key. Was hoping to enlist your help in figuring out suitable alternatives to the parts that were out of stock.

Please see the spreadsheet of the cart attached. I crossed out all the items I was able to order. Correct me if I'm wrong but it looks like everything left is for the PSU except for the C2/C3 caps on the two Aleph J boards and the thirty 0.47ohm 3w 5% resistors that will be used on both the Aleph J boards and the PSU.

Thank you all so much in advance.

Any advice on how to get spreadsheet to attach? Might be related to me being new and having my first few posts restricted/reviewed?
