Update on the J Zen: sound really flourishes now. Woody guitars, really really natural, and ambience along with it. Decay is superb. What started as very honest and a bit thin, has really blossomed without giving up honest. Time, is all it takes 🙂 Single ended class A at it’s best.
Thank you!I feel happy for you. 🙂 Positive sound impressions is my favorite part. 😀
Problem is, this of course highlights the systems weak spots, being neglected due to PSU and amp building. Speakers now getting a damping and wiring makeover. Fave DAC being repaired, source getting linear supply soon. Hope it comes together nicely.
Hope all is well with you!
Regards,
Andy
Everything will settle and will sound superb, I am sure of it.
Don't forget to enjoy the music. 🙂
I have high hopes to finish mine this year.
Right now I am waiting for one pretty Chinese chassis to arrive, wich I then need to tap with holes.

Almost done...
It is very very heavyweight!
Please help me set Iq and DC offset with these boards![]()
Nice build. Can you share your experience with the CLC power supply? Does it live up to your expectations?
Dear ZenMod I saw in another thread the pictures of your PSU board that Peppennino use for his Aleph J.
I have plans to make PSU for my Aleph J as dual mono in one case so I gather the knowledge of various PSU designs and tricks.
I attached the picture of your PSU with lines in blue color that is of interest.
What are the advantages of these trace cuts? (the ones I colored In blue color)

Ensures as little ripple as possible in audio gnd junction, and hence ground plane itself and ground takeoff points. Notice takeoffs are dead center and as far away from equalizing currents between neg and pos side of plane as possible. It is basically T’ing off the gnd, also discussed by Bonsai in his Hifisonix article. lovely boards.
OK GH explanation, Mighty? Bet not

Must be Covid fixing my brain or something. You being Mad Hatter, me being full of kids Mad House Covid camper. This begs the question: does Covid negatively affect soldering skills? So far, nodamn greenhorns are more clever each day
I'm Happy Camper, beside being Mad Hatter 🙂

Hi All!
1) Such a great amp, couldn't be happier with it.
2) I have a pair of KEF Reference Model 3.2's, floorstanders that are 4-ohm and 91db sensitivity (1m/2.83V). Several sources say the model 3, which is very similar, has a minimal 3.5 ohm and relatively easy to drive. Many sources say the Aleph J is not the best into 4 ohms but can do it. I also listen at moderate volumes. Point being, I hadn't considered running the KEFs with the Aleph, but now I'm wondering if that just might work...
Is it a bad idea to try? If I do, is clipping the main danger, and are there any warning signs? If there are any real risks I'll work on another amp for the KEFs, not worth causing damage to either, but the thought of the Aleph's powering those KEFs is enticing...

Give it a go. «I do not know of a load that can damage it» or so, Papa sez. If it works, it works. And if it clips, it will do so «ever so gracefully», as Stereophile magazine described the Aleph 3. No danger. You go! 🙂
I'm a happy man, i received generously a BJ (babelfish j
) and some parts from ZM. I was asking around for p-jfet alternatives for the AJ, but in addition to some j271,also received bjt's and pcbs, and mkp caps. Let's try to make it sing now. Maybe i will even consider leaving it on when it gets to 33C (90F) in my room (facing sun, no climate control).

I can't believe I said "many sources" and forgot to quote Papa. Amateur hour here. Thanks!Give it a go. «I do not know of a load that can damage it» or so, Papa sez. If it works, it works. No amateur hour, you are entirely correct: it is not the best into lower impedances. But it might work well for you regardless, and there is no risk of damage - only graceful clipping 🙂 Since you listen at moderate volumes, there is a good chance you will be happy.
If it does not work out, you can consider one of the push-pull offerings 🙂
