Can't wait to finish basic cabling so I can listen to it again! Can't wait to test the preamplifier !

I just demoed this system to a few hardcore audiophiles. One guy has a $35000 setup at his house, and while listening to "Cielito Lindo" by Marta Gomez said:
"On my system the sound of this song is so pure I thought it couldn't get any better, but on this system I can feel her soul"
I don't think there could be a higher compliment possible for audio performance.
Sonny has provided a gift to the DIY community that to my knowledge is leaps and bounds ahead of any of the other DIY solutions available.
Way to go Sonny!

The same as for the DAC.
It will need +5 - +5.5V<200mA, +15VDC, 300mA and -15VDC, 300mA.
The DAC uses +5 - +5.5V<100mA, +15VDC, 200mA and -15VDC, 200mA.
So they can both be powered by the SMPS ECL30UT03 without any problems.

Hi Sonny,
I was contacted yesterday by DHL and next week the package should be in my desk 😀
About the PSU, as per your post the ECL30UT03 should be enough for my setup (DAC+DISPLAY+PREAMPLI). Can you please confirm?
I have many Salas PSUs around and if needed I can setup one.
Thanks and Regards,
Enrico
That is correct. The ECL30UT03 should be just fine. But i would recommend you to try the Salas PSU as well and Maybe post your findings as well.

Ok... I will try both and I will try also with the Reflektor for +5V and I will report back.

Hi Sonny,
Just a quick question on the preamplifier... Can it accept SE sources and if yes, is it (-) phase tied to gnd as usual and can this stay tied together at all time for this source or while other balanced sources are playing or only when this SE source is playing? Does it support SE output for non balanced amps?
These questions are for finishing the jack setup on the backplane of the chassis so I can organize it properly.
Thanks

Every input is separated, so you tie the input (-) to gnd on the channel you want as SE input.
You use the (+) out and gnd for SE output.

My search is over...
This is the best DAC I've ever heard, it renders pure emotion!
I'm having goosebumps every time I listen to it.
What a huge 3D soundscape, what a detail, what a musicality, what a tranquility... my best discovery on DIYAUDIO.
My Buffalo II (ES9018) with WaveIO sounds synthetic and flat compared to this DAC.
My setup:
AK4490 DAC => Dayens Ampino => sonus faber electa amator
.....the best sound I've ever heard!
Thanks for creating this piece of art and keep up the good work, sonnya!

All,
does the DAC gets warm/hot during use? The enclosure/case I bought unfortunately does not come with ventilation holes, so I am a bit worried. I am using sealed ECL30UT03 SMPS as the open type is sold out.

It warms up a bit. But not hot. It should be okay. I have the encapsulated supply too and barely gets warm.
Thanks, for the feedback.. I am relieved to know this.

Hello Sonny,
Your DAC/preamp sounds like a great offering.
I intend on placing an order with you once the final pieces to the puzzle are revealed (chassis, LPSU, phono stage?). Guessing it will be most cost effective to ship everything at once versus multiple packages.
I also recall reading that you will be developing a phono stage at some point.
* Any plans to incorporate it as an add-on of the DAC/preamp offering?
* Or is it intended for a stand-alone preamp only?
Apologies if this is a silly question. Just trying to get a better understanding of what the big picture is.
Thank you,
Sten

Is it correct that when I buy a "AK4490 USB Dac with dsd support – Discrete DIFF/SE shield" and the available SMPS, I have a complete working DAC?
I understand it is possible to change filters, how is that done?
(I'm using an Auralic Aries as streamer)

As far as I understand you can change filters using the screen and controller. You can see another thread by Sonny. Screen for your diy projects
